opened my latest issue of golfworld today and there was a tag heuer ad for sunglasses. normally i just glance at ads but something odd caught my eye. a pensive looking kimi. i wonder how many golfworld readers recognised the world champ.

There was a private-jet add with Hamilton in the Rob Report not too long ago. Very subtle. I wonder how many people flipping by notice?

Old Jackie Stewart is still selling Rolex watches. I wonder which F1 star hocked the most stuff?

I'd imagine very few golfworld readers would recognize the worl champ but golf is just as popular abroad (at least in Europe) so I'm sure enough of golfworld's subscibers would recognize him.

    You think he would?

P.S. I believe Kimi and TW are the top 2 highest earning athletes in the world right now.

Schumacher is the best paid F1 driver of all times. Lots of his money was made with selling souvenir stuff from the MS collection. Ferrari gave MS and Willi Webber basically a license to print in the early years. Once they realized how much MS was making they limited his own rights to use the Ferrari name, but gave him a better salary package. Ferrari now makes about 50 mio USD per year selling F1 souvenirs.

#2 in the all time list is Eddie Irvine, but he made his fortune by reinvesting his driver salaries into real estate.

#3 is Kimi who made most of his money through driver salary. He has some sponsor contracts.

#4 is Stewart who made most of his money through hocking stuff (your words). His salary was minimal.

PS: Here is a new Fiat commercial which MS and Kimi shot together. Kimi actually speaks a few lines in German. Sadly the commentator talks right over it:

Thanks dude. I didn't make any of it up (not that I would ever), it is all from "Business F1" (they might have made it up :)). So I could back it up with real numbers if anybody cared. Roughly it is 600+, 250, 150, 120 million (from leaking memory).

at least for 2007 woods was number 1 and kimi was number 3. kimi would have been second but oscar de la hoya had a huge payday with his floy mayweather fight.

tiger is supposed to make more money in 2008 as is kimi since he's now WDC so no doubt they'll be 1 & 2.

Don't forget Hamilton who just signed a huge contract. Business F1 speculates that he'll become the first F1 driver to earn 100 mio USD per season.

I leave the propaganda to the Massa fans. :)

The commercial is kinda lame. They don't say much of any substance. Kimi says things like "Not bad." And Schumi's "big line" is: "Now I'm gonna show you how a retired person drives." So if you don't speak German, you're not missing much. What is more fun is the fact that Kimi actually speaks...:) and speaks in German. Also the driving from either of them is not impressive at all. You'd think they do some powerslides, but no.
