I have to say I was dissapointed with Cavallino again this year.
Less cars, less vendors, not that there ever were many vendors
to begin with. I'm a Cavallino fan all the way, but Cavallino has to
change venue, format, something to keep going. It's getting
hard to justify paying $50.00 for that show. The best part was
the parking lot. I've always envisioned the show to have an area
that has artwork, memorabilia, parts, all related to Ferrari. I realize
the way the economy is maybe has something to do with this years
turnout, but the previous years have been in a slide as well.
By contrast, John's Palm Beach Super Car was great. A different vibe,
more excitement, the waterfront, the amount and quality of cars, and
my favorite, the P4/5, which I'll never understand how Cavallino never
had. I'll definitely be attending PBSCW from now on. If Cavallino changes
I have no problem going to both.

Your not the only one that feels the same, I too was very dissapointed. I remember last year they had alot more cars on the lawn, this year it felt like they had more cars at the parking lot! I could have saved my $50....

This was my first year attending PBSC and I do have to say that John put on a great event.

    I have to agree w/Sindo308QV & 360RossoFiorano.

However, I will continue to attend both events as I did yesterday.

My guess is that more & more older, classic Ferraris will show up at PBSCW in the future.

As some of the other Fchatters did, I parked my Fcar on Flagler in the morning and headed over to Cavallino and then hit PBSCW in the PM.

Truly a great day for car nuts!
I took over 300 photos between the two events.

Thanks again Jim (Napolis) for bringing the P4/5 and giving my 6 year old some excellent words of advice.

    Cheers

I have felt the same way in the past couple of years. I talked to a bunch of my other friends that went this year and they felt the same. I stayed home this year due to work committments. All of these concour events are getting kind of stuffy and boring for me anyway. Maybe I should go to some tuner shows or rat rod events. LOL

I am fond of both events. Yes Cav was a little smaller but it is still super luxe and the breakers never let's down

John did an amazing job and raised the bar for all car shows

I still cant believe though that I spent close to 100 bucks just on entry fees! ;)

I guess if you've never been to Cavallino, you should go,
if only to see the classics at the main entrance area.
But once into the "general area", big dissappointment.
No reason why Cavallino and PBSCW can't coexist.
Yes they are different shows, but for a concours
event, Cavallino needs to raise it's game.

I really enjoyed both events! My kids preferred the PBSCW, but the quality of some of the Cavallino cars is beyond question. I really had fun with all the activity this week getting to feel like I was a part of the fun, and always glad to make out of town people feel welcome. The Cavallino last year seemed to have more interesting cars last year (the numerous TR's, the F40 display), but still a great show and to me well worth the $50. Lunch was fun, and the food was really good (even though the kitchen had a tough time getting it right). I like having people from all over the country coming to our back yard for a world class week of cars and parties. The Mid Atlantic group was fun to visit with, and the track was good as always!

It seems every year there's this Cav vs PBSCW debate. The whole issue is moot, they are two different events for different spectators. Different strokes for different folks I guess. We should just be happy we have this one weekend a year with these many options. Old cars, new cars, jets, boats, track days, classics racing, etc.

If there was one thing I would change, though, is the format of the "Tour of Palm Beach". I would add some sort of scavenger hunt (answer a few questions over the course of the route, or something) to add entertainment and competitiveness, after all, there's only so many times you can drive A1A without being bored.

These two shows do not compete. They are not even close to being the same, and there is no reason why they can not coexist. I would have preferred they were on two separate days on the same weekend, but their geographic proximity made it easy to go to both.

Next year, if they are on the same day, someone clever should consider a shuttle between the two.

The people I watched at PBSCW were not the type that would cross the bridge and go to Cavallino. There are likely very few of us local car nuts that would go to both, and I did see many out of towners that went to both. I think that it works that both shows have their niche audience.

As for being dispappointed with Cavallino, I don't think it had anything to do with the organizers, I would be curious to know how many entrants backed out in the last two weeks. The stock market affects the desire of many car owners to spend $25-30,000 to bring a car to Palm Beach, and stay at the overpriced Breakers for 3-5 nights.

Living here, I am selfishly glad to see both events. For its first year downtown, PBSCW was incredible, so totally well organized. Now if we could throw in some RM, etc, auctions every night, and a Quail-like show on Friday, and with Amelia in March, there would be no need to go to Pebble Beach.

I predict you will see some significant classic Ferrari's at both shows next year.

The only downside to the PBSCW was the uninformed kids that were leaning on the cars. I was not concerned but if I had a $500k car I probably would have been. Fred would have been in need of some heart meds if he had his CS there. A few signs at the entrances would have probably helped deter some of it. The 'enhanced' spectators were pretty funny to watch!

There's no reason to pit one vs. the other.
If you want to see classics you go to cavallino and if you want modern metal you go to super car weekend.
It's really that simple. I just do both and it's a hell of a day.

I was unable to attend either events this year. After going to Cavallino for a few yrs now, id rather go and just check out the parking lot. I enjoyed going in last year, but Id rather see various exotics outside, than paying $50 to see the same cars as yr before. Cavallino is an awesome event and I highly suggest/recommend everyone to attend it atleast once though!

Did not make it to the Breakers. Had too much to do in the morning and did not even make lunch. That said, Cavallino had less cars at the track but that was actually a good thing for the participants. We had two cars being judged at Cavallino but I have not heard from the owners yet about their finish. Assuming they are still in a Champagne enduced coma it must have gone well.

PBSCW was incredible. I thought there was no way John can top the year before and yet not just that he topped it, he managed to blast it into a new stratosphere. Absolutely incredible job. Great sponsors and great venues, great people. I cannot wait to see what he will put up next.

The PBSCW event hurt the attendance of the Cavallino in my opinion. Right after lunch the place emptied out. I also attended both events and while the Breakers is just out of this world, I liked the Flagler event better. There was only one Enzo at the breakers and more like 3 or 4 and the FXX at the PBSCW event not to mention the P 4/5. That was the first time for me to see Jim's car and talk to him. I must say it looks a lot better in person than in the photos I have seen. It is really impressive. I also got to see 2 Bugatti Veyron's. That was a real treat for me. I also liked the new Jag. and the Maserati . I have said a few times on this forum that I didn't like white on Ferrari's and now I must eat my own words. The white 599 and 612 were crowd pleaser's. I must admit I was in shock that I liked them although the 612 looked more like a car for the women. The white 599 was truly a good looking car. I thought the separation of the classics from the newer production Ferrari's at the Cavallino was a bit too much. It struck me as if the cars on the lower level were not really Ferrari's. They made it difficult to go from one group to the other. I don't know if that was on purpose or not but I thought it was a class distinction. That is to say that the classic guys look down on the modern guys. I may be way off base on this but that is how I felt. I thought the music and more upbeat atmosphere at PBSCW was fun. I did enjoy it a lot.

As BT said, not having a $250,000 or $500,000 vehicle, it didn't bother me too much in regard to folks drooling over, onto and INTO my Fcar at PBSCW.

However, some signs at the the entrance setting forth how to look and not touch the vehicles would have been a good idea.

Believe it or not, when I got back to PBSCW after lunch, the guy w/the brand new Masarati GT parked next to me said three people actually opened his car door and sat in it!

I think alot of people have misunderstood "one show" better than the other,
but rather what can be done to improve the Cavallino event. So lets not keep
being PC about it and actually give some suggestions. The last thing all us
Ferrari fans would want to see is the event go away after all the
years and past great events there. But it does need a revamp, I know all of
you know what a Ferrari nut I am! And as for both shows catering to different
people,I don't know about that,PBSCW is $40.not that far off than Cavallino. These
days people want their moneys worth, even the Palm Beach crowd.I think
having both events on the same day is good for competition, and to elevate each-
    others game.

Robert, those people that left Cavallino after lunch paid to see both events. So I would say it was good for both events. Neither event is worth more than 3-4 hours, enough to see both in one day. How many times can you look at an over-restored TDF? How many times can you look at an Enzo?

Both events better do something incredible for next year to keep interest going.

I enjoyed myself very much this weekend at all of the events. Cavallino is much different than PBSCW, as others stated, so it's difficult to adequately compare the two. I was a little worried that it would be tough to attend the lunch and both shows in one day, but it worked out very well. In addition to appreciating beautiful cars, it was nice to see new faces. It was great to meet those of you I had not had the pleasure of meeting prior to this weekend and just as nice to see others again!
Agreed!! The track was an amazing experience and the parties were super fun, too! Great pictures, Heather! I'll upload mine when I'm not a zombie. :)

I'll bet the Breakers lunch crowd and outside bar receipts are down. I also think the limited time hurt the vendors. Most had little business after a few hours. Maybe people will skip the Breakers next year and maybe not. I don't know if I want to rush around since the viewing at the PBSCW is also very nice. There are a lot of choices for lunch and parking is a lot easier. The view at the Breakers is great but I enjoyed the intercostal views as well. If you are alone $100 for tickets is no big deal. However if you have a party of 4 and go to both events its a little piece of change. Who knows, I guess we will see.
