Awesome time at both events!! BTW, the black Enzo was my favorite car all weekend - it has graphite wheels and it was AMAZING! Mike S. and I were talking to the owner at the track on Friday, and he is shipping the car next to Monaco so he can drive it there. Funny thing, Mike asked him how he gets away with not having the license plate on the front (the owner's from England), and the owner reponds that he doesn't like the way the car looks with a front license plate, so he just pays the tickets.....................
As far as one event vs the other: I think that we get blinded by the fact that we are fortunate enough to roll in F-cars, and we get to see them pretty frequently within the group events we do. So, sometimes seeing other F-cars doesn't stir the soul like it once did - making other makes/models seem more impressive. Both events were fantastic, and we are VERY fortunate to be able to have such world-class events right in our own backyard! That said, PBSW kicked A*SSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John T and Scott L should be very proud. The sight of thousands of people enjoying hundreds of cars along the Intercostal was really something. I very much enjoyed seeing the Ferrari 2003 F1 car/FXX/Maserati Corsa/Shelby SSC/etc., etc. etc. It was great meeting many of you, The Mayor/and talking to the Media. It's interesting to see which event was reported on in the Palm Beach Post: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/localnews/content/local_news/epaper/2008/01/27/s1c_supercar_0127.html
Nice talking to you Jim. I liked your blue car the best, but they are all cool looking cars that would be great to own! How about that weather Saturday!!! BT
Mike must have misunderstood slightly my reply re licence plate. I was told that all UK Enzo's were supplied without a front licence plate, there not really being anywhere to sensibly put it. I have never seen a UK Enzo with a front licence plate and whilst not having yet driven the car in the UK, I will be more than happy to pay any tickets I get (rather than ruin the car's lines), although it seems most UK Enzo owners never received a ticket - Black Enzo Owner.
Well I never had a chance to attend the PBSW, but I can ASSURE you that the physical numbers of people at the Breakers was consistent with last year. Actually I found the antique (upper) field to be a bit crowded and the lower fields were more like the way it has always been. The upper field was like a miniature Pebble Beach... Crowded! I dont think most of you remember the older Cavallinos when that wall was not there. Im still dumbfounded as to why the Breakers built that thing. It makes the grounds look smaller and hurts the Cavallino crowd flow. The quantity of Ferraris on the lawn was the same as past years except for the tarmac where the racecars sit. They were light this year. Not sure why Gee, maybe these racers were off to The Rolex 24? The upper field had one big plus though NO GAPS. Every car was there. I loved that part of it plus all the Daytons in the middle field. I walked down to the Interacoastal trail on the island, looked across the water and decided I had seen enough cars for the day, but noticed no Yachts. Where were the Yachts? That I wanted to see. Oh, and as for the P4/P5. Its a stunning looking car, but Ferrari is quite set off by the creation of it. Find the story online and read it. I spoke with the Cavallino gents and Ferrari does not recognize it and I think they are sticking by Ferrari. I would if I was in their shoes. I have to agree with all of the positive gents out there though There really is no comparing the 2 events as they are structured differently. If anyone can see both then they are ahead of the game. My mates who attended both said they enjoyed them, yet they were truly different. I still prefer the track though. All in all Here comes the next Monterey. cossieturbo
Yeh, you don't see many Enzo's with a front license! By 'funny', I meant that I love your thoughts that you'd just pay the tickets rather than ruin the lines of the car! Brilliant!! All I know, is that your car was my favorite car all weekend!!! Feel free to PM me some pictures of your car so I can have Enzo envy!!
This is the only warning you will get. You're statement on Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina is not true. Your making it shows a reckless disregard for the truth. Upon seeing P 4/5 Luca di Montezemolo felt that the car deserved to be officially authorized by Ferrari and badged as a Ferrari and along with Andrea Pininfarina and me (James Glickenhaus) agreed that it's official name would be "Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina". Ted West wrote an article in "Car and Driver" about how this came to be: "The Beast of Turin". This has been public record for years and is codified in writing. Anyone who publicly states that this is not true does so at their own peril. Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina has never applied for entrance to Cavallino.
I thought Jason Kay was the only Black Enzo owner in the UK.... I overheard some people talking at the jet reception about your car, you being British and how you must be "that Jamiroquai guy". BTW, nice car.
True. To save anyone who is uninformed I read the whole thread regarding this (it was like 20 pages), and there was a photocopy of the letter from Ferrari authorizing its badging posted. So if Ferrari is okay with badging the car as a Ferrari, they are certainly not 'set off by it'. It is a cool car, and the owner really enjoys it, and Ferrari has essentially authorized it, so no need for negativity. BT
I just don't 'get it'............ If people can take a fk'n Pontiac Fiero and make it a "Ferrari", why is there so much confusion when someone takes a FERRARI and makes it a Ferrari????? Gheez............
NAPOLIS - My apologies mate. If it’s approved then that is fine by me as I like the P4/P5. I guess there are too many corporate people with too many conflicting statements. I will remove the passage. Can't remove. hmmm. Cossieturbo
Controversy about P 4/5 is no longer, the only controversy I can think of is how I can make you 10 years older or me 10 years younger. ;}
True, but with all due respect, the Post is a West Palm paper and that's where PBSCW took place. On the other hand, the article in the Palm Beach Daily News (a/k/a the Shiny Sheet), which is the only daily paper in Palm Beach (the island, as opposed to the City of West Palm), which is where Cavallino was centered, concentrated on it and made scant mention of PBSCW, so . . .
Curious, did anything appear on either event in the two real newspapers in the area, the Ft Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, and the Miami Herald? I think more people here read the NYTimes than any paper in Palm Beach County.
I think those two papers are only allowed to write about "Mortgage Meltdown", and "Housing Crisis"!!! BT
Not true actually. We had about 7 total stories in Palm Beach Daily News. We were the cover picture story Sunday morning. A three page story Thursday January 24th. And Five other stories throughout the past two weeks in both the Real Estate and Business sections. We also had about 5- 6 articles in Palm Beach Illustrated a Palm Beach based magazine. http://www.palmbeachdailynews.com/search/content/specialsections/auto_showcase/AS_012408_Supercar_Wkend.html January 24, 2008 http://www.palmbeachdailynews.com/search/content/specialsections/auto_showcase/AS_012408_Supercar_Aero.html January 24, 2008 http://www.palmbeachdailynews.com/search/content/business/BIZNOTES0106.html January 6, 2008 http://shinyshots.palmbeachdailynews.com/pages/gallery.php?gallery=296663 http://www.palmbeachdailynews.com/biz/content/business/biz0120_BIZNOTES.html January 2008
The event was covered by People Magazine US Weekly NY Times Business Week Palm Beach Illustrated Palm Beach Daily News Palm Beach Post Car and Driver 944 Magazine Ocean Drive Magazine New Times and much much more. We have an amazing PR firm.
I would think the New Times would be the perfect place to see in depth coverage of the event. My first taste of that paper was in college when they featured a little known cartoonist Matt Groenig doing something about the Far Side.... BT
This was my first time attending Cavallino. I followed advice from other threads in this area which was to attend Cavallino in the morning and then hit the PBSCW in the PM. I'm glad I did, because I really enjoyed both events!! I was a little surprised at the amount of cars displayed at Cavallino. There truly were more F-cars in the parking lot than were on display. I'm hoping next year's event will have a better turn out. As for the PBSCW, I saw every "SuperCar" that I've ever wanted to see (P 4/5, FXX, Veyron, AM DBS). As other have already mentioned I was truly shocked to see spectators opening the doors of these cars and getting in, kids leaning all over the cars so that both their fingerprints AND even their clothes can possibly scratch the cars. My son is 5 years old and he's known since he was 3 NOT to touch any exotic car. Still...thanks to all the organizers for putting on a great show!! Bill
