I don't agree that Jim's picture of the burning car is Mairesse's Ferrari at Spa 1962, but I can't identify it. It looks like there is a grille on the ground with cutouts for fog lights, such as you might find on a Testa Rossa.

Jeff - you are right. It's NOT a 156. The chassis is sports car, and the grille, as you say, looks 250TR. Could be Kessler's 0666 at Le Mans but I don't think so. Something somewhere in my old grey matter is saying 'South America'? Maybe I'll sleep on it.

All stone walls look like that once they have been drive through with a Ferrari. Could be North Africa - or then 0772 as detroyed in Targa...

The burning car must be 0682MDTR, a 500TRC driven by Gaetano Starrabba in the 1959 Targa Florio. Not a fatal accident. Car was not destroyed (????), it's still around!

It couldn't be 1957 Targa Florio, so I'm confused by your answer.

On first view, I would have said it was a Scaglietti spider but now, I wonder if our crashed car is not a 250 GT ??

"Kammamuri" and 0503GT may be ???

0682MDTR did not burn; it was just beaten up pretty badly.

The date of this incident is April 13, 1957! Giro di Sicilia and the car is the Maserati A6GCS, s/n 2091 of Luigi Olivari who crashed fatally.
Both photos here are from AUTO ITALIANA who featured this event.

    Ciao!
    Walter
