Well after much debate regarding whether to modify the Euro Ansa Sport system to work on my US-Spec car I decided to send it back and continue the hunt for something else. So last week I spoke to Dan at Stebro about their sports system as well as headers. He said they saw a 32 hp gain on a 2vi 308 using their headers and muffler (I'm sure in ideal temp conditions) but I've been considering pulling the trigger on their muffler and headers. It seems to me that for a 32hp (realistic maybe 17-20?) gain which isn't going to stress the engine it's worth the $6K or so for the whole kit-n-caboodle. Any experiences/thoughts?? My friend put a Stebro system on my old GT4 after he bought it from me and I really liked how it sounded....but one thing I've heard about Stebro is that they can sometimes be difficult to deal with and that their shipping/order time can take an exceptionally long time....is this truth or falicy?

    Cheers;

Somewhere in the lines of communication between myself and GT Car Parts and Ansa there was confusion as to whether my car was a US-spec or Euro-spec and they sent me a Euro muffler which didn't fit properly. I spoke extensively with Paul Barry at Ansa who was incredibly helpful in trying to rectify the matter and suggested that I have a local speed shop modify the system to fit but ultimately I just decided to send it back and find a system that is 'plug and play' so to speak. I know some folks here have had complete custom systems made from scratch but I the ones I've heard on 308s I didn't like the sound of so having heard what a Stebro sounds like I thought I'd just go with them. However when I was looking at their website the US system they have looks totally different than what I have on my car and the Euro system looks like my stock muffler but I am positive my car is a US-spec model. Their Euro system also looks like the Ansa Sport I just returned and the fitment issue was that the tips weren't (a.) properly aligned to exit through the openings in the valence and (b.) they wouldn't have extended out far enough even if they did protrude through the openings. And as far as I can tell the cats have been removed from my car because the 'Euro' system did bolt right up and I didn't see any place for catalysts...

P.S. The Ansa Sport system cost me $1500.00 plus $100 freight from Arizona to Ohio. And BTW it was the last one they made for the 308 and as far as Paul heard from Italy there weren't plans to build any more of them so if you have a Euro 308 (without the valence) and want an Ansa I'd suggest giving GT Car Parts a call!

I had some Email exchanges with GT Car Parts and they only have 1 ANSA exhaust left for the EURO GT4. I wanted a full SS exhaust since I drive my car often and in most all weather except rain, so I ended up with the X-OST and not the ANSA.

I will say that I've been eyeing the Stebro headers though, HOWEVER......, the price to play is too high. I love my GT4, but at $3375 that money is better spent on the SS exhaust valves later this year. :)

That sounds very reasonable on Ferrari terms. Do they have these for all 308 models or was this some kind of sale on a single item they had in stock. Are Ansas that much less than others?

Not all the ANSA's are Stainless Steel, therefore the attractive cost. The one for my car (~$1500) is painted black and only the tips are SS. They offer a full line for the 3x8 series AFAIK and they sound great. I wanted a full SS unit, plus I love the sound of HANS' GT4 with the X-OST!

once you took the exhust to fit your car they wouldn't take it back becuase in was cut, welded and fitted just for your car, they were banking on that, good for you sending it back to get the right one, my stebro bolts on and off in mintues if I want the stock back on which I kept for the next owner, which I'm not planning to sell it any time soon, having to much fun driving it,and listening to the exhust

    Aaron,

I own an 85QV and have installed a Stebro exhaust and also purchased a free-flow catalyst from Dan. I love the sound and the freer flowing exhaust. Much better than the Ansa that came with the car when I purchased it. It's also fun removing the ionserts on track day to hear the unrestricted exhaust sound.

    It's worth the price!

ANSAs are aluminized 'coated' steel if you will, with chrome tips as mentioned...there has always been problems with refitting the valence when they are used....I'd imagine the later slotted 'diaper' one is a nightmare.

If you dealt with Paul Berry, that's the man...

They are manufactured to order for Ferraris as there is low demand, VERY little stock ON the shelf....

The pricing difference reflects the materials, obviously.

Retail $$ was around $1,700 last time I checked but obviously the tanking dollar will probably drive that 50% up since my last deal.......if you buy bulk quantities it's a little better, for a Fleet User like me.......

I refer to the North American version FE2020.....

I would steer away from Stebro that is if you want to get your exhaust sometimes this year. I have a first hand experience dealing with them when I bought the exhaust for my 456M. The quality is a 5/10 comparing to X-ost which is 8.5 and 9 for Tubi. Welds are average, mounting bolts were cheap bolts tack on. Don't expect much in terms of friendly customer service, it took them 2 months to get me my system (after several promises), when it arrived it was different from the one advertised in the pictures (ie it wasn't polished SS, tips were different and oddly spaced). When I brought that up toDan and requested a returned the system because wasn't right, - after waiting 2 months I felt that I would be accommodated, I told I was wrong and it was the same as advertised. I clarified the discussion by sending comparative pictures, I didn't get an apology just a note the they would send my another system - they absolutely refused to take the system back and give me credit. To add insult to injury, I waited 6 more weeks to get "correct" system. The system had signicant "droning" at low RPMs that made the car loud but didn't really sound good. My guess is that never actually tested the system for sound but use blueprints to build to fit. I rate the experience a 2/10 and would never buy another one from them. I sold the system - new unsused - for less than 25 cents on the dollars.

I would expect more like 3.2 hp rather than 32 hp. Seriously.

Absolutely NOT worth 6K. My God, get the supercharger kit for that money. You will be buying real power.... real PROVEN power. If you're worried about stressing the engine then tell them about how much power you want to produce and I'm sure they can size the supercharger pulley accordingly.

I'm waiting for next year when hopefully Larini will be making a bolt on catless/no test pipe required stainless exhaust for my US spec GT4! :D

Turn up your speakers -- it gets good at the 17-second mark . . .

I had heard Larini dropped support for 3-series cars because of fitment problems with their product (US-spec vs. Euro). Capristo might be expanding their product line for 308/328 US cars?

Stebro offers BOTH Euro and US sets of tubes, so its the buyer's responsibility to order the right set of tubes. It wouldn't hurt to crawl under there and take some measurements and learn about fitment first, this might help order the right parts the first time. NOT many vendors out there making new Headers for 3-series cars, but over a Dozen of different muffler manufacturers. BTW, if you don't like the stock factory finish, there's always Jet Hot for a few pesos more...nothing like added insurance.

For what it's worth I recently installed a Stebro system on my 355. Order was promptly shipped within 2 weeks. Communication was fine. Weld quality is not to Tubi standards but neither is the price. Quality and fit were fine. Sound with the inserts is great. Since I did not have any issues I cannot comment on Stebro customer service.
