Are you "assuming" this gentleman purchased Miura SV 5096? You are not correct... Joe www.joesackey.com
I made no such assumptions.... unless the gentleman who's cars I take photos for has recently become a background member of fchat (not likely) ... this GTO is 57715, and a few people have been trying to sell him a Miura for some time... Wonder if there is success now? I was simply responding to TonyH that there is more story to the link which he posted edit: looks like you made the check and were wondering yourself just a bit of jurisprudence p.s. does this mean there are now two 288's in Michigan?

Joe (or anyone who knows), I love the 288 GTO. There is one area of the design that I am not to keen on, maybe it is because I don't understand its purpose... I am talking about the hole / vent / duct under the doors. Is this for engine / break cooling?? thank you for your information. -Michael
Michael, I believe the ducts direct air to the gas tanks (there is a little black piece that protects the gas tanks from stones) and act as a diffuser to direct the air to the headers. The headers on GTOs get very, very hot. This helps keep them cool. Funky, but it seems to work. Steve
off topic wanna go into the sad details for us miura fans steve ? ps has the car been restored, awaiting restoration or is it no longer with us
is this the same one that was in the CAR article re being picked up and driven back from Maranello - or did Stratton have more than one ?
I don't think I've seen this particular pic of the black car posted yet. I have to agree with the consensus on here. Aside from black being incorrect, the GTO just doesn't seem to take to it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Greg, Thanks for posting. However, not only has the car been posted earlier in the thread, but its now been confirmed as having been returned to red. Joe www.joesackey.com
I'll probably post the entire episode on the Lamborghini thread when I get around to it. But, I will say I was young, the startup went public, I hadn't learned how to properly drive race cars yet, I was drunk (the real issue) and the car landed on its roof after rolling three and a half times (according to the eye witness that I attempted to avoid coming around a corner), in the rain on Highway 17 on the way to Santa Cruz trying to catch last call with a friend (I kid you not). Which is why I will not even sip a drink if I know I'm going to be driving. One screw up is enough. Steve
And may that particular Miura SV Rest In Peices. Im sure you prefer to forget the chassis number... Joe www.joesackey.com
Joe, Like many of my early Lambos and Ferraris, I never even cared about the VINs back then. I don't have the VINs to my first couple of Daytonas, 275 or 330. They were just cool used cars to drive around in. I only purchased the Lambo because I couldn't afford a 308. Yup, the 308 was more expensive back then. I think I paid $25K for the Lambo. But, I was told by my insurance company that someone did purchase the wreck. I'm sure it exists today. Oh, but you should have seen it on Highway 17 that night. One of the few things I do remember was seeing the wheels and suspension all over the highway. The CHP officers were amazed we weren't hurt. We did, however, forget we were upside down before getting out and when we unclipped the seat belts (remembering to buckle up may have saved us) we slid down on our heads. When the CHP showed up we were just standing by the car. And, unlike the movies, or a pinto, the car didn't explode, or for that matter, even catch fire. Steve
For the last 23 years I have been in love with the 288GTO, living in New Zealand the chance of seeing one was left only to over seas trips, but that will all change this coming weekend. The owner of NZ's only 288GTO (as mentioned by Joe) is bringing it along to our national concourse event. This will be a moment I will treasure for ever. (photos to come)
You have to post them. I have actually seen that car in person many years ago... Joe www.joesackey.com
