Ferrari gets a head start or rather McLaren looses out twice.

Well, not only did the whole spy saga cost McLaren $100mil in fines it also cost the team dearly in new revenue from the F1 Group who run the sport. Apparently this year the F1 Group payout is almost double of what it had been in previous years so Ferrari pulled in $68.9 million for “winning” the constructor’s championship. That’s the biggest payout a team has ever received. That’s because in 2007 “the top ten teams shared 50% of the profits generated by F1’s commercial rights including those from trackside advertising, television rights fees and corporate hospitality. Previously the teams shared a prize pot made up from 47% of just the television rights revenues.” * Had McLaren not been found guilty of spying they would have received the second place payout and if in addition, they hadn’t received the bogus penalty for the qualifying brew-ha-ha they would have received that total sum.

To add insult to injury Ferrari got an additional $33.3 million as a reward for committing to F1 until 2012.* This was done back in 2005 when talk of a breakaway series started growing momentum. McLaren was possibly part of that break away series.

So McLaren starts the season with the $100 million fine and Ferrari receives about $100 million from the F1 Group for well... I’ll leave it at that.

I wonder how long it will take McLaren to get their copiers warmed up this season.

 

All McLaren had to do was NOT take the Ferrari book. Thats it and none of this would have happened, but they did and now they have to live with the bed they made. Ferrari got paid because they know how to play the game of F1. Maybe that is the knowedge Mclaren should have be looking for instead of the cheating.

 

How about Ferrari knew FA and co would take the bait and got them hook line and sinker, Surely they knew Stepney's teeth were gnashing ..Fire awaaaaaay

I do not feel one bit sorry for Dennis the Menace and his McCheater team. Not one bit. Perhaps they will think twice about cheating in the future.

I don't think the heat rating is high enough on that suit for what's probably coming...

 

Even if the FIA didn't exclude McLaren from the constructors they would of finished 2nd overall. Not sure what you mean by Ferrari "winning" the constructor's championship.

Also, you're glaring error is that McLaren's $100 million fine was actually $100,000,000 minus any money lost do to the loss of championship points. Thus you can take the 2nd place prize money that they aren't receiving and deduct that from the $100 million. This is the balance they must pay. It cost them exactly $100 million no matter what place they would have come in the championship.
