Hey, that yellow 355 spider was my first Ferrari! Loved that car.

Hate the wheels they put on it though ...

Cullum I miss chasing you on the club runs - you should come back. Looks like Contis still has your blue 430 . . .

Used to live out west fastmikey. Have you driven the ferrari around Titirangi and out towards Piha. Some good corners heading out to lanigholm.

yeah, I'm not having much luck selling it. Apparently its the highest mileage 430 in the country - maybe that's why. thinking of just keeping it and flying back for the club runs etc. I originally thought of selling it and buying something over here, but the prices are horrendous! they tax absolutely everything, then put a tax on the tax and call it stamp duty!

There's a car shop very near where I live that sells classic cars, and I've drooled in their window from time to time. They've got some real beauties, like a 993 GT2, right hand drive Miura and a convertible Daytona! Absolutely gorgeous cars ...

Anyway, what's there to miss? All you ever saw was a blue dot disappearing in the distance ...

    :)

I absolutely love that track. Had my old Diablo on it a couple of times. Much prefer Taupo to Pukekohe. And no matter what the Ferraristi tell you, there is *nothing* like pointing a 6.0 Diablo on to the straight, planting your foot and then feeling it bend spacetime around you ...

Well, that depends on your range of personal experience. If a Diablo is the high point of your driving background and you're comparing it to a 355 or 430, then you're possibly correct. Based on that, we're all rushing out to sell our Ferraris and buy a Lambo. Not. :)

I didn't say it was the high point. I didn't even say it was better. Just that it was unique. The Diablo is a terribly flawed car in many ways - the 430 is better in pretty much every way, except maybe top speed and high end acceleration. But hammering the Diablo is just such a drama.

But your implication is quite right - I couldn't possibly justify such a claim without having driven every other can that exists, or has ever existed. Thanks for pointing that out. :)

I'll admit my comment was a little mischievous. I don't get why Ferrari owners are so anti-Lambo. In the end, we're all just consumers, and there's nothing wrong with seeing our favourite car manufacturer get some competition. On some of the fun runs I've been on there have been Porsches, Maseratis, Audis, you name it. But when I told the organiser I'd be bringing the Diablo because the 430 was being serviced you'd think I'd asked him to chop off an arm!

Anyway, they said ok, so long as I stayed at the back ...

You can always tell the ex 355 owning 430 spider owner. He's the one sitting behind the 355 in the club run enjoying the noise.

Contis are struggling to sell even 355's at the moment, the recession is starting to take hold . . .

Heres a memory of better days

Lots of traffic out that way and especially in the summer. SH16 is great early in the mornings - the one that goes through to welsford.

How is Aussie compared to West Auckland?

Great place to live. People friendly, but miss NZ roads.

Haven't done south island, but plenty of great roads specially around the middle of the north island. In fact all over. :)

Hi Callum, i am the current owner of your old spider, and i put the wheels on it.......I'm sorry you feel that way about them, i think they bring out the lines much better than the standard rims, i think the standard rims are too chunky for the lines of the 355.

On the plus side, i love that car too, it now has a Quicksilver exhaust on it. It makes the most glorious noise!

So you don't have a toy in Aussie yet then? If you head back over the ditch, get in touch, i could give you a drive down memory lane.....or just a drive in your old car.

    Hi Jim,
I thought from earlier posts you had a black 355?

Anyway, it doesn't matter what I think - it's your car so I hope you enjoy it. I'm not a big fan of after market wheels - that's just a matter of personal preference, of course. And yes, it really did need a sports exhaust. But wasn't it loud enough already?

It would be great to touch base and swap stories ...

Its not that we're anti-Lambo, its just that so many Lambo/Porsche/Lotus/etc owners feel the need to tell we Fchat participants again and again how much better their cars are than Ferraris.

There is a place in the world for both Lambo and Ferrari and we'd all be sorry if Lambo wasn't here, can't we just leave it at that? :)

I always figured you would look good in a Diablo roadster, with a hairpiece, gold chains and chunky watch. You know, the failed tennis player/yesterday's lothario/"look at me I'm too sexy for my body" kind of look. :D

Such a shame you missed it, I went and it was great, not a drop of rain the whole time I was there, and I was there for the best part of 3 hours.

Plenty to see got a few pic's I can add here if anyone wants to see them.
