Started about 6pm last night. All in all it was very easy. Less than a 3 beer job. There were no real suprises, just some tight working space. I did not remove the pass. rear wheel to take off the exhaust from the header and that made it tough. I did when putting it back on. I REALLY like the way it looks and sounds. I took her for a spin today as its halfway decent out.
Enjoy the pics. I'll have a YouTube vid. here as soon as I figure out what I did to the disc....:)

A couple of things that I noticed.
First, the car idles better from a cold start. (backpressure? :) )

Maybe it was the ice cold temps today, but she just SCREAMED down the highway!!!! The power felt ON today.

Also, whatever is inside this exhaust SMELLS. Not horrible, but it does stink. After my run down the highway, I noticed that there was smoke lingering out for a while out the tips after shutdown. I wonder if there are oils inside from the manufacturing process that are buring off???

I notice the same thing with cold starts, better idling. Smell does go away after a few drives as stated. Congratulations, sounds like it went on real easy. I guess you won't be selling the original on ebay!

It's good to see that you have and use all the appropriate equipment to do things properly and safely (jackstands, jacks, wheel chocks etc.)

Yep, I put it in the other thread....31.5lbs... I did not weigh the original, but its SIGNIFICANTLY heavier. I'll have to pull it out of the trash and do that today...

I always leave my jacks in place WITH jackstands and wheel chocks.

I was adjusting my hood yesterday after I got everything buttoned up (I had pulled the lower front valence off to better attach it) and I dropped a wrench down there. <ARRRGH!!!> There was no way I was going to trust just a jack to get under there, remove 3 screws and grab that wrench. Safety 1st!!!

It's not high pitched like the TUBI's I've heard. It's a very robust/rich sound that is very similar to the original ANSA but a hair deeper in tone. It really sings!!! I'll get an audio clip posted. I borrowed my neighbors digital camcorder and messed up the disc. I think I was supposed to 'complete' the disc before taking it out. I'll see if I can borrow it again....

    Hey Jim,

Sorry I was unable to make it over to give you a hand, it would have been a lot of fun. I showed Angie the pics in this post and she and I both can't believe the difference in looks that makes. Very impressive!!! Congrats and well done, looking forward to seeing and hearing your beautiful GT4!!!!!

I would say that looking at the pictures of the old one....comparisons in sound from the other are not going to be very helpful!!

I would like to hear a clip too. Is it loud? I have never liked the Tubi because it is too loud. To me there is a difference betrween quality and quantity of sound! It doesn't have to be loud to sound good. I like the Ansa because it sounds good without being too loud, but Ansas are big bucks. It would be good to find a good-looking and good sounding alternative.

Congratulations, Jim... Glad you got the new one installed. NOT that you needed a new one -- the old one looked just fine. :)

Now we know why your car was so loud and mean sounding (it had virtual straight pipes with the holes in that exhaust.) New one looks great, and I think will sound awesome. I agree with Birdman. Comparo's with the old setup are moot.

    Great job. Now go drive!

The original sounded very nice. When my neighbor recorded the YouTube clip I posted, it had basically pinholes around the left pipe.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twshMgxwZjA

The exhaust was rapidly starting to fall apart, yet sounded better and better with the exception of getting REALLY loud inside the car. Here is the sound clip from late in the summer. The exhaust had a pretty sizable hole in the left side by then. (excuse the 5th gear grind, I got a little aggressive with the shift...:( )

I'll update with the new sounds asap...

It's hard to tell from a recording, but it sounds very similar to the old one to me. Not that there is anything wrong with that...the old one sounded good!

And the part I forgot to say is that the X-Ost looks great, so loudness is the only thing I would be worried about. Also, I'm sure we would all appreciate it if you posted how much the system cost.

    Thanks

    Keep up the good work!!

Both of those recordings were of the old exhaust. The 1st one was from when I got the car. The exhaust was in good shape. THe 2nd was with a gaping hole in the side. I have not posted the X-OST sounds yet.....Sorry for the confusion...
