Sorry to hear this, but here it is. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,23187114-2862,00.html How many F1 GP's, do we have left in the English speaking world? Two, I think, UK and Canada, but the Canadian GP, is in Montreal, which is French speaking, n'est pas? Ciao...Paolo
he is such an idiot, there is Eastern Creek in Sydney which is a PERMANENT circuit, they had the A1 there last weekend, maybe the walls are too high for Bernie to see over
First the U.S., now this. The only big picture that your friendly neighborhood money sniffing weasel has is go where it's green. Very sad hearing this news of our Aussie cousins and it only serves to highlight that with the costs involved staging this continent's only venue, Yecch's demands will increa$e $taggeringly for the organizers of the Canadian GP. Easy then to speculate on how much time we must have left... It's difficult to stay awake (or wake up for that matter) to watch an F1 race live from opposite ends of the globe, but it's part of what makes someone an enthusiast. If we can't stay up, no problem, just stay away from the news and sports until you can. Racing an F1 car after daylight hours is not, imho, a great idea, and for the fans it adds yet another unwanted detraction they never asked for.
Doesn't come as a surprise after the fiasco last year's organizers made out of the race. The organizer got fired for that and (I believe) Melbourne's tax payers had to pick up the bill.
This is a crime against F1, ANOTHER crime! Out of all the tracks I know Albert Park the best. It may not be the best track in any one category but it ranks high in my books for every category.
Good riddens ... all it means is that I will probably never see another F1 race in the flesh again. I can live with that more than I can live with Australia continuing sncking off Bernie. This Australian GP will very likely be the very last F1 race I ever watch ... and I'm only watching it because my father will be visiting. F1 is now the worst possible form of motorsport from any enthusiasts perspective other than they are very fast. We can thank Bernie and Max for this completely. Pete
It'd be interesting to get some perspective on what's really behind this? Not a big deal other than losing tradition. It doesn't matter to me where the race is as I watch it on TV. If it's boring just flick it off.
That's what's behind: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=137452347&postcount=4 Pay up to Bernie or at least come his way with a night race. Two negatives and you're replaced by a country that is more than happy to play along. No rocket science here. Quite frankly I don't really get the crying Wolf here: Australia isn't one of the founding fathers of F1 racing. So it isn't that much of a tradition that is lost. Adelaide and Melbourne park are tracks that suck: They're city tracks, with no room for error, no elevation changes and not much charisma. So it is not like we're loosing Spa. We're merely replacing one city track with another one. Personally I find it sad to loose Australia, because it is "not just" another country but actually a continent and as such should have a F1 race. But if there isn't the will to accommodate F1, well c'est la vie. And to all those who hate Bernie Ecclestone and think he is the impersonation of greed: Remember he makes the money for all the teams. If they wouldn't be happy with what he is providing, he'd be out of F1 in a heartbeat.
You can't build a tradition if you don't stick along for the ride . Also Australian GP has been run as either a F1 race or a Tasman series race since the late 50's I believe. While I have always hated Melbourne, even though I have been to it twice, you are wrong regarding Adelaide. That was a great and very exciting and fast track. (Most) Australians don't like taking it up the @rse, and that is all you get from Bernie. Bravo Australia IMO, you guys now get to watch F1 on cr@p boring and completely unfrightening brand new tracks. Yes Melbourne was a poor track but every new track is even worse. Tracks designed back in the old days when men had balls is what F1 needs, not artificial computer generated whimpy tracks. Pete
This sucks. Imagine how many Aussie's will never see a live race again. Sorry to hear. I know how it feels. Portugal lost theirs in 96 and I didnt even get a chance to watch any race. (Not to go off topic but hopefully we get it back again - see my new thread regarding a new Portuguese track)
Man, the F-Chat:Aussies must've really pissed munchkin Bernie off this time. Does he, or rather, do we suffer as a result of his Napoleon Syndrome?
Blecch is sharp, shrewd and the epitome of successful. I don't begrudge anyone who makes certain their own interests are taken care of before anything else or manipulate an entity for the single minded purpose of increasing one's own personal fortune. Done every day. However, do I believe F1 could have been run better by others instead of B ? Definitely. Could it have been run worse ? Unquestionably. Do I know who could have done a better job ? No. And right now, it doesn't matter, because HE is F1. Until someone credible steps up to corral manufacturers/teams, get sponsors onside, offer better contracts to organizers, get TV rights in place, etc. etc., to create a replacement series, we're stuck with this weasel and personally, I know that can only mean one thing for us down the road. It's going to get worse.
