    Much better look.

Two of us are planning our 512TR majors for later this year. Your threads have inspired our creative thinking.

...really not to my taste. These were gorgeous cars coming out of the factory -- tarting them up with odd paint jobs in the engine bay only destroys value, IMHO.

Okay, I will strip off the powdercoat right away since you are an expert on value. Let's see your Ferrari.

Hey you tart. I agree that the black suits the engine bay better too. Not sure if you were looking for an 'opinion' or not, so whether I'd do that to mine is immaterial... your workmanship is just unreal. Nice job. I bet it runs as good as it looks too!

    Do you prefer this one?

    Or perhaps this one:

Which has this completely correct engine, including '93-version black crinkle airboxes:

That has won various major concours and track proficiency awards, including these:

and doesn't sport an aftermarket exhaust or fender shields?

Or, perhaps 1990 TR, SN 83958, owned in more recent years by Vince in Alaska and the subject of a current thread on this forum that includes correspondence between the two of us on the car?

Or, would it be my first Ferrari, the Black/Red 1987 328GTS I bought from Lake Forest Sports Cars in 1991?

Or, if you'd like to check back in about 24 months, it might be my 599GTB forthcoming from FoSF.

Hey, perhaps "tarting up" was a bit strong (I do apologize for that), but as a longtime Ferrari owner, active FCA member and track and concours enthusiast, Coppa Bella Macchina winner, and Coppa GT winner, I think I'm entitled to my (admittedly personal) opinion about what actions by owners sustain the value of the marque and which don't. OK?

By the way, I've never been a big fan of the silver airboxes on the '92 512 myself -- one reason I prefer the '93.

Adam ^Pay no attention to this guy^.

I think what you have done is GREAT. I have respect for guys that turn their own wrenches and can fix their own Ferrari's. Big-Ups from a fellow wrench turner. And for the record, I also have many parts in my engine powder coated RED. It's YOUR Ferrari, do what YOU like.

    Adam,
I really do get a kick out of the self appointed Ferrari guardians that jump into some of these posts. It reminds me of a poodle show and everyone with their panties in a wad over someone doing something different. When they buy me a car and give it to me I will feel a small degree of concern for their thoughts, until then forget them.

I just finished doing a bunch of stuff to my Testarossa and the next thing is removing the old fuel injection and replacing it with an EFI system. There are going to be some other changes that will include powder coating, so I am always eager to see some other examples. I think I like the air boxes black, instead of red. Have fun and keep posting.

Ahhh! That ggertz guy doesn't bother me. There's always one in the crowd that has to say something negative. All I know is that I probably know a "tad bit" more about the 512TR than he knows. :)

I drive my cars when I can and not too big on the wine and cheese thingy, but nothing wrong with it. I personally like my engine bay much better and I have always disliked the crinkle finish because it holds in so much dirt and grime. Take a look at his engine bay compared to mine. Which one would you eat off of? Me...probably none of them, but if I had to choose...well umm..:)

hmm.... can someone correct me, but I could swear the silver air boxes were on the 92 and 93 models.... and were black in 94 .... ??

I can't say with certainty that all '93 air boxes were black, but can confirm that my car (late '93 production) was original with black air boxes. Would be interested in learning whether all '93s were similar.

i have to agree with ggetz...i prefer to keep it stock. (personal taste)

For sure, you can do what you want with your Ferrari,
but you couldn't hope that everybody will like it...

Still that's a good work, and that's normal that you're proud of your car, and of the mods you did...

Enjoy your TR to the max !

    Ab,

I had no idea you crossed over to the Ferrari world. We need to get Azvedo in here too.

    P.S. - I like the black boxes.

    Hello again Gary - - -

Had your car not been exactly like Enzo had intended, I'd have walked right past it with a tsk, tsk, tsk. Normally I don't even open these threads.

    Keep up the good work.

    Rgds Again,
    Vince
PS: Mea Culpa - - I am guilty of an X-ost system soon going in :-(

The air boxes are great!! The intakes are a bit red for me. Possibly if they had a bit more silver on them (pipes) or the raised bits on the top. But whatever you like is all that matters....regardless the bay is clean and neat which is a BIG thumbs up.
