If the car is going to Texas, this is where it will end up. They've done a few F1s in the past and are the only Registered Importer that I know of in Texas: WALLACE ENVIRONMENTAL TEST LAB 2140 WIRTCREST LN HOUSTON, TX 77055 http://www.wallacelab.com >8^) ER
The initial plan was to build 300 in total, but the world economy at the time, and McLaren's unwillingness to compromise the car in order to meet US safety specs hampered their ability to reach those sales targets. Some potential customers were also reportedly scared off by the car's rapid rate of acceleration and the pure nature with no driver's aids. Additionally, just two years after production of the F1 began, McLaren formed their Formula One partnership with Mercedes Benz and there was a bit of a conflict of interest in having the road car's engine sourced from a rival German manufacturer. Here's a clear breakdown of that 107 figure: 5 F1 road car prototypes 64 production F1 road cars 9 '95-spec F1 GTRs 1 F1 LM Prototype 5 production F1 LMs 9 '96-spec F1 GTRs 1 F1 GT (longtail road car) prototype 10 longtail F1 GTRs 2 production F1 GTs 1 spare chassis McLaren built them from late December 1992 until April 1998. There were some gaps in the F1 road car chassis sequence, so the final F1 road car wears chassis #075. The 28 GTRs run consistently from from #01R - #28R. The production LMs are LM1-LM5 and the F1 GTs borrowed some of the road car chassis numbers - 54, 56 (the prototype) & 58. >8^) ER
pelton maybe you can enlighten me, the one for sale at symbolic, it says its number three, does that mean its a prototype or just an actual production car. Is there advantages to having a later model F1 Road car?
It's an acutal production car. The road car prototypes were given chassis numbers XP1 - XP5. The production cars were simply #001 - #075 with the gaps I described earlier. The reason the Symbolic literature says #003 was the second one built is that #002 was finished first after all the XPs and then #003 was second, with #001 being finished 3rd. From there, the sequence of build order to chassis number stays somewhat consistent until the end of 1994 with only a few being built out of line. From that point forward there were some strange variances, with #028 being completed after #037 and then later #053 being finished after #042 and #040, but before all the others that should have been built in between. >8^) ER
Can anyone tell me where the Maclaren F1 was sold as new from? Which type of dealership? Thanks in advance.

Is this car in Houston at the current moment? Last week there were a few people in the Houston Spotters thread who believe they may have seen the F1 driving around. However, they weren't able to see a good site of it. I swear this car is like Nessie or Bigfoot.lol
Don't forget "Tahoe Tessie"....I have seen a Mclaren on the roads around here just as often as I have seen Tahoe Tessie - NEVER http://www.americanmonsters.com/monsters/lakemonsters/index.php?detail=article&idarticle=172
There also was a very small dealer showroom based on Park Lane in London, enough for one car basically but one car was enough.
I believe that's all the Park Lane dealership was, a show room. The Mclaren lady who was there when I went in (and I went in there ALOT) was kind enough to pass on basic facts and literature, but when asked for anything more than that I got a kind of 'you're not on the same planet as me' look on her face. I wondered then how people would go around buying one, and I can only assume the lady took down your details, you got credit checked to ensure you weren't some fantasist, and then, as long as you passed the credit check and it seemed likely you had the money to buy one, would Mclaren then contact you direct to discuss your options at the factory
A few pics of a McLaren steering wheel centre badge in CF. My dads old secretary's boyfriend use to do the CF for the cars and gave me this. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Its funny, well probably not that funny at all but it just lay around in boxes etc for years and has a couple of very minor scores etc. If i realised at the age of 15 or 16 when i got it, just really how fabulous a gift it was, i would have wrapped it up and stored it carefully
I bought this recently, it's the Suit Carrier piece of the luggage set from XP5, the car that broke the speed record with Andy Wallace at the wheel in Germany to go 240.1mph. It has the F1 logo on its front and under the handle, in green, is embossed XP5. I have since learnt that normally the luggage sets for the F1 had the same colour under the handle of each piece of luggage as what was on accented in either leather / alcantara on the drivers seat. Let's just say It's being kept in a secure place so my son can appreciate it when he is older Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
