Just when you thought the steroids issue in baseball couldn't get more bizarre, McNamee (Roger Clemens' long time trainer) saved the bloody gauze and syringes alledgedly with Clemens DNA on them for several years just in case he needed them.

McNamee first said that Clemens had not used steroids. Then when he was threatened with jail for lying about it he changed his story and said Clemens used steroids but produced no evidence. In January Clemens taped a phone conversation with McNamee which was inconclusive.

After the secretly taped phone conversation, McNamee decided to release the "evidence" which he had saved for 6 to 8 years.

No one apparently thinks the "evidence" would be admissable in court. No way to know if these items were doctored or tampered with.

Sounds fishy to me. Why would anyone keep evidience that could potentially prove one's own wrongdoing? Was he planning on using it to blackmail Clemens? Is this a total fabrication in an effort to keep himself out of jail for perjury?

    Just too bizarre.

This is one of those, you just don't know who or what to believe.

I for one believe they are both lying. I believe Clemens has taken some form of steroid in his career. I also believe Mcnamee is lying as well, but about what I'm not sure.

When Clemens was asked in the press interview they held here in Houston a week or so after the report was released of whether he and Andy ever talked about steroids or anything related to the topic. He claims they never discussed that. Very very hard to believe that.

Now there are a lot of questions as to why McNamee has all of this evidence. Was he plotting some sort of extortion all along against Clemens? And when all of these allegations came to light, did this "evidence" become conveniently playable into his own game?

+1 It seems like there are other things we should be focusing our attention on instead of what player may have possibly at one time used steroids..There are a lot more important things in this world that need our attention..

It does seem awfully strange though. I am willing to bet some blackmail was planned...

Roger Clemens is a great baseball pitcher.

Roger Clemens is also a classless jerk, my least favorite professional athlete of all time.

    Even more than Barry Bonds?
Anyone else find it extremely strange that McNamee saved the syringes?

    Beyond strange.

I do remember when there was a lawsuit filed against Pepsi because the customer found syringes in the soda cans. A review of the store security tape system showed the customer putting the syringes in the cans. ;)

the thing that i found most interesting/bizarre was the fact that he saved the old bloody gauze pads and syringes! claiming he "might need them in the future." wow. i can't tell of a better case where someone was expecting to get indicted on charges. you all know i'm a huge baseball fan, and as much as i'd like to believe roger clemens, my hopes that he didn't dope are quickly diminishing. with that being said, let me say this about the state of baseball:
    1. the mitchell report is out. yes, some rather harsh allegations were made, but guess what, we can't change what's already been written down without a lengthy process, and chances are we'll never know the truth.
    2. bud selig has enacted the changes recommended within the mitchell report. times are a-changing.
    3. bud selig's around for another couple of years. hip hip hooray (sarcasm there)
    4. hank aaron's record is broken. yes, i'm sure barry bonds doped. yes, i believe there should be an asterisk in the record book. but guess what, that's probably not going to happen, at least we have the sanctity of knowing that everyone who sees barry's name in the record book will automatically think asterisk, we don't need one printed in black and white.
    5. a-rod's only got a few more years til the record is his, granted he stays healthy.
    whew, i feel better now.
    oh - one more thing:
SPRING TRAINING STARTS THIS COMING WEEK! and i couldn't be happier! cardinals - world champions 2008. cubs - officially 100 years of sucking, :D

What ever happened to the 756 ball after the vote, did Marc Ecko follow through and put the asterisk on it? Does anyone know?

Clemens is a jerk for a lot of reasons and McNamee is a snake for many others. They deserve each other.

As far as admissible in court, I suppose it depends on whether it would be possible to determine if they were legit. The gauze would be secondary to me, although how he would have any of Clemens' blood to put on them should come into question. If the needles have Clemens' blood in them along with testosterone/HGH/steroids, it will be difficult for Clemens' to worm his way out of it.

The trainer keeping the syringes actually doesn't seem that strange to me, IF they were cheating. His behavior seems consistent with a guy who was helping to break the rules and needed some sort of evidence to save his own butt later on. Clemens' obviously has multiples of money and resources available to him, and could have broke the trainer just in legal fees should the s*** hit the fan (like it did).

If Clemens' is found to have used steroids, in my mind he is no different than Pete Rose. Bonds, McGuire, Clemens, et al, should be banned for life from the Hall of Fame. Actually if the last balloting is any indication with Big Mac, they already effectively are.

Whats the big deal here. Let them take roids and who cares. If they play better and a doctor gives it to them then go for it. I don't see why the idiots in washington need to be involved. If baseball considers it a problem then they should fix it. Just seems like a no issue.

you know, i was wondering the same thing a couple of days ago. i haven't heard anything about it since the voting closed for deciding what to do with the ball. i do remember seeing that cooperstown would take the ball no matter what condition it was in.

My friend worked at a baseball training facility here for 4+ years and Roger's son trained there all the time. Your sentiment rings true according to what my friend always said about him.

Funny story, my friend was cleaning out the batting cage while one of Clemens' sons was hitting (I believe the one that signed with the 'stros). He was yelling "Dad Dad, watch this!" Then SMACK! Took a ball right to the head. My friend said it was the funniest **** ever. Mainly because his son had his Dads prickish attitude.

We had a dog named Cody. Nice dog though.

Clemens has got more balls than a baseball team, that's for sure. ;)

McNamee now claims that Clemens got the idea of takinf steroids and growth hormones at a part at Conseco's house in 1998.

Clemens produces video tape of sportscasters saying on the air that Clemens was NOT at the party. Clemens also produces a receipt for green fees showing he played golf that day and therefore couldn't be at the party. ;)

Canseco probably has a world of information he may or may not be at liberty to say. Since Ken Caminiti was really the first to actually speak on the issue years back, he probably knew a ton of info.
