It will definitely improve the sound not much but noticeable, it will kind of give you a little deeper tone and a bit louder.

And it may improve the performance just a little bit. But beware of the extra exhaust fumes, some people say they smell it

    and some say they don't.

You should do it because it will make a nice new sound but go with the Hyper-Flow instead of the empty test pipe. It will give you exactly the same results you want without the fumes. I speak from experience with both. Many years with both...

I have a stainless steel straight (open) "test" pipe in my 3.2 in place of the cat. I haven't notice an increase in exhaust fumes at all, but my nose is not that sensitive (too many years in the garage with too many chemicals!). My car still easily passes the Washington State sniffer emissions testing. It would fail a California style visual inspection however.

It's a little louder with the test pipe but not dramatically so. Sounds good!

I also have a Hyper-flow and am very happy with it. Quality product that just bolted right in with no problems, and the fittings for the O2 and cat temp (slow down light) sensors also
    lined up well.

I was just looking at the Hyperflow page and it stated that by using their conv. you won't lose any power compared to using streight/test pipes. how could you have power lose? is it the back pressure?

A test pipe will do the following:

    1. slightly louder
    2. smellier exhaust
    3. reduce engine bay temps and fire risk
    4. will not improve performance

so.. if any of us went with a test pipe will it have any adverse effect with the slow down lights sensor?

No. The light comes on when the cat gets too hot so a test pipe eliminates that from happening. However, most, if not all, test pipes come with a boss to screw the sensor in anyway.

Me too. I had a test pipe on originally but found the fumes in my garage too much. The sound was ok but actually better when I finally got the cash together for a Hyperflow cat. Also doesn't smell, cooler engine bay and good sound.

I still have my test pipe if you're interested. Virtually unused and has the right fittings for oxygen sensor and thermocouple. PM me if you're interested.

i just bought my 1988 328GTS and some one be for me has put a high-flow cat on it and it passed smog OK the guy doing the smog test did not even look past the top of the motor and sticking the probe in the tail pipe, i think i was lucky to get someone that did not care what he was doing.he should have not passed my car for the high -flow cat that he did not see.......and from what i have heard from stock 328's this one does have a nice tone to it,and is a little stronger sounding than the stock ones i have heard.......i like it....and I'm not getting fumes that i hear about..............
