I did an extensive search looking for a specific bracket a fchatter mad to mount a fire extinguisher in front of the passenger seat in a 3x8. I ran across it one day when I wasn't really looking, now I can't find it again. It was posted in the "new" forums, not in the archives.

NOT the "Charness Harness". The one I'm looking for was a single strip of aluminum that was bent to attach under the seat mounting bolts and then kind of bows out for the extinguisher bracket to mount to. Something extremely simple to make. The post had pictures of it and I was hoping to see them again before starting my own project.

If anyone knows what I am talking about please point me in the right direction! Thanks!

Not that one, thanks. It was even simpler than that - just a single strip of aluminum with the ends bent to go under the seat bolts.

As I recall, the one I am thinking of was the last post in the thread. I just can't find the darn thread! I spent 2 hours yesterday looking at fire extiguisher threads trying to find it...

Jeff328, are you talking about this one? I made it for my 308 QV a year ago. You don´t need to make new holes in the car since it uses the ones that suport the seat.
The seat can be moved without taking the extinguiser off.

If you need it, I can send you the plans with all the measures.

I just used zip ties to tie the bracket that came with my extinguisher to the bar that runs accross the front of the seat.

That's not it but I like the way it looks.

The one I'm looking for is really simple. It's a flat stip of aluminum with a few bends in it. No cutting of the aluminum stock required except to make it the right length to fit between the seat mounting bolts. Simple bends anyone could do using a vise and rubber mallet.

I made a rough sketch that might help explain what I am looking for.

    crmso,

I would appreciate the plans as well.

    Guys,

What is the main extinguishing agent in these cans? I am having big trouble locating halon-filled extinguishers in that size or whatever replaced halon. I have one, but it is larger than the size of a softball in diameter and very short compared to your pics. Mine cannot be mounted in front of the passenger seat like what you are doing without it getting in the way of the passengers legs.

These are halon or halotron extinguishers. A company called H3R seems to be the major supplier. H3R markets their halon extinguishers for aviation use and halotron extinguishers for automotive use. A 2.5lb unit is about 15" tall and 3" in diameter.

    Jeff,

Thanx!! I'll check them out and relegate my slightly larger unit to the trunk (probably cannot have too many, within reason).

This is the drawing of my bracket. The main advantage is that you can move the seat (front-back) whithout dismounting the bracket, because the holes I used to fix it moves with the seat. The only problem is the access to the screws on the inside, but using a tool like the one in the photo it isn´t impossible.

If someone uses it, please post photos of the result. It would be great for me to see them.

I have a chrome one and a red one. I figured I'd put a Ferrari sticker/magnet on the red one and put that in the 328 and then put the chrome one in my '67 (Pontiac) GTO. Or switch them if that doesn't look right...

Cheapest place I found for H3R 2.5lb halotron extinguishers was Summit Racing - www.summitracing.com - $119 for red and $157 for chrome. $10 shipping no matter how many you buy.

Thanks for posting that! If my 328 seat is like your 308 seat I may use your design. I like that the bottle moves with the seat.

No - that's the "Charness Harness" design. Thanks anyway!

    Opening an old thread.

I'd love to get this "Charness Harness" extinguisher for my 308. Does anyone know where I can order one?

    Thanks,

Fire chief told me that a 2 1/2 lb extinguisher is barely enough. He said anything smaller was useless.
