As some of you might have read, I stated that it would be a great idea to have a Testarossa Only gathering somewhere right in the middle of America. Well that place seems to be Topeka, Kansas! Thats 1188.7 miles from my home.................Oh yeah, in order to enter the meet at the still to be determined low ticket price of?? you must drive to the event.............or you will be assessed a $49.92 fee for being a trailer queen. These are the things that I must get info on...............

    Track availability and cost http://hpt.com//store/catalog/roadrental.php
Is track time of interest to attendees?
    Hotel requirements
    Involve some sponsors
Get some worthwhile TR relaated prizes for a variety of awards
    Insurance requirements
    Promotional materials
    Security
Catering, if any......Maybe some local vendors?
Should the Non TR public be admitted?
What profits, if any,......... should they be held to make this a yearly ocurrance or given to a charity?
    Sanitation facilities
    Parking requirements
    Permits if needed
    Clean up after the fact
    Contact local media
Entertainment for the masses, what would you all enjoy....music, a movie, a speaker, whatever....
Overall staffing for the event over a 2 day period......... Saturday and a 1/2 day Sunday...longer-shorter.....When?
Get an idea(s) of what you the TR driver would like to see, hear and experience............

Realize many of these costs and concerns will be dependent on how many TR drivers are attending...........25 drivers make it easy..................250 make it more complicated................and 1000 would be amazing...........

So, PLEASE don't do as "I" do and run at the mouth with the sarcasm and twisted thoughts I often inject.............if you have ideas, advice, connections or talents that would possibly help make this a reality...............speak up..........

    OK, Here we go...................

    Gentlemen, Start your Flat 12's..............................

It is dead center of the USA..................

    Chicago 591 miles
    New York 1263
    Jacksonville, FL 1216
    Dallas 500
    LA 1558
    Seattle 1860

Trying for a meet in the middle place.............Is there a road race track in the Denver, CO area?

I mean hell it would make it a whole lot easier for me to have it at Watkins Glen. That's 20 minutes from my home, and I have a ton of connections and a very good idea of what services would be availabe. BUT, it's not "fair" to the west coasters, southeast and southwest drivers, or the midwesteners.............

Some of my layman's responses below...

Perhaps, depending on cost and requirements (inspection/helmets/certification). I have never done a track event so not sure what's involved.
Needs to be very near the event, reasonably priced, national chain (ie, Marriott) if possible.
Surely Ricambi, etc would have some interest. Maybe Norwood has an upgraded TR to display/demo. Also consider partnering with a local or national charity. They will probably have a lot of experience in logistics of this type.
In addition to 'concours-type judging, try some fun awards. Longest distance traveled to get to the event. Most miles on a TR.
If you hook up with charitable entity they should handle that.
A good website is always productive. Talking it up on related forums, referring back to the link. Coordinating with FCA or FOC chapters as well (for emails to members).
If possible, find a local upscale shopping area that would host the event (see Cars for the Cure - Orlando for example). They should have several restaurants to choose from.
There should be an 'open to the public' viewing time for sure. No other cars though.
Partnering with a charity might be the best way to go if this gets big.
Depends on the size of the event obviously.
    Sure thing
Music is always nice. DJ is easier than live performers. Wider varitey.
If we have to travel a long distance, I would suggest a Friday night dinner, Saturday events, and Sunday fun run at a minimum.
If you can arrange a local police escort, a brief 'TR fun run' at the end of the event would be fun. You will need at least 4 police cars to do it right.

I can check with the folks that run the Cars for the Cure here in Orlando if we need more specifics on logistics.

We might want to consider breaking this into an east coast / west coast event. Some people may not want to drive two thousand miles for a two day event (go figure). Maybe Vegas for the west coast and somewhere in NC for the east coast.

Perhaps consider gathering TRs from the Eastern Half of the country as a trial run first?

I guess the first thing to do is find out who all is TRULY interested in doing an event, and where they are located (...like stick pins on a map sort a thing). Then based on that information...maybe a central meeting location can be determined. Maybe Kentucky or Tennessee or.....????

So hey out there all you Testarossa owners, if your interested in this....let's hear it!

Great ideas and input Rob and Jeff!!

Hey Rob, if you could find out what the Orlando event people might be able to suggest or be helpful with would be excellent.

East/West..............Might indeed be the best path to follow. Or do an East coast venue and test the waters....

Also maybe make it a 12 cylinder Ferrari ONLY event..............don't want those BB guys feeling left out (Newman?)....

This kind of response is exactly what is needed to get a foundation to make this a reality..............Thanks again Rob.

    Next!!

Maybe it's just me, but I can't imagine participating in a track day in the middle of a 3,100 mile round trip on a long weekend in my only transportation home - a 21 year old "exotic"

Only pulling your chain. (But my diff is NOT Papier-mâché - put 512M diff in).

I agree that a track event would not make much sense given the scenario. A good vigorous 'fun run' might fill the void left by skipping the track event.

The SCCA holds the National Championship races in Topeka every October. They can handle hundreds of racers and have a great track, even if it is used only for a spirited parade. If you want east and west coast together, it makes sense. If it is too hard to do for the north-easters, have an east coast event and don't expect a lot of left coast participation.

Honestly I think if you had an annual Ferrari meet and each year a different model was the marque you'd get a lot more play.

I ask for a lot from the Mrs's but if I told her I was going to Kansas next summer for a TR only meet - she'd tell me to leave my dick at the door and mount my balls above the mantle.

I think this is a great idea but the location in trying to be equal distance for everyone makes it too far for most owners. The US is to big to be convenient for everyone.
Ferrari are typically in CA, Fl, TX, and the northeast.

Pick a location in the area of one of these. Perhaps rotate the location around the geography.

I like this idea. I wouldn't mind shipping my car from Hawaii to California for the run but wouldn't want to drive to Kansas from there....just too far in a older car (90TR) Just my Humble opinion. Some spot the wifee can still have fun too. Like Vegas on the west coast...(Not that far from Texas and Arizona) Orlando? on the East coast & don't know enough about the NE to pick a spot... Pocono maybe??

I'm thinking Bowling Green Kentucky. Take it right to The Corvette's home field. :) Seriously. They should have some car related stuff to do there.

So what your (or should I say your Wife is) insinuating is that if you go to Kansas for a TR only weekend you will get laid? Very cool, a benefit I never even worked into the equation.

By the way I made an inquiry to Heartland Raceway today about a date and cost...............

Due to some unresolvable differences between Kerry and the Moderator....I don't think Kerry will be posting on fchat anymore - sad to say. Many times he said what needed to be said, sometimes overly-blunt and to the point, but always entertaining. Kerry was a real assett to our community. He could think "outside the box" and come up with some creative solutions to some of the problems we face with our TRs. Remember his replacement intake sleeve? Mine is still looking and working great. Remember his Titanium front spoiler skid plate - worked like a charm. He has lots of good ideas, and is very resourceful.

I'm hoping that an appeal to the fchat-powers-that-be will restore his membership. So I would like to be the first to request a "stay of execution" and re-instate Kerry with a firm slap on the wrist.....
