Without question...the Benbow Hotel & Resort

Nice place. Perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but I'm comfortable with taking the weekend in the Ferrari and using the Carter House as my lodging. The wife loves it

No question for me, either: Benbow Inn. It's situated in the country, on the Eel River, in redwood country. About 2 miles south of the nearest burgh, Garberville. Benbow has rooms in the main building and right along a stream (called Terrace Rooms). Some of the Terrace Rooms are spacious, with fireplaces. The biggest is the Cottage. It's family owned. The owners are from Eureka.

My wife and I love the Benbow Inn. We first visited in 1983 - in our 365 GTC/4 - and have made the trek from San Diego to the Benbow nearly every year since, mostly in one of our cars, including Ferraris -- on some great driving roads. The food is very good, great tea and scones in the PM. The location is perfect if you like being in the country. The Avenue of the Giants is only a short distance north of the Inn. There are some good parking spots. In fact, were were just there for a few days a week before Christmas.

I believe the architect was the same who designed Jack London's Wolf Lair near Glen Ellen, Sonoma Valley.

We have absolutely no financial interest in the Benbow Inn.

 

I drove past there yesterday on my way back up to arcata, just north of Eureka. My wife and i have been to the inn many times. The setting is spectacular and equally important, out of the city environment. It is very comfortable, nicely done and about an hour south of Eureka.

If you are into the city life, the Carter is good but it is hard to pass by the relaxing environment of the Benbow, especially when you are into the travel mode.

Agree on the Benbow. If you want to stay in Eureka, the Eureka Inn is the place. Very historic. Have breakfast at the Somoa Cookhouse...if you are really hungry.

 

Oooooh...the 550 is the only way to take those roads! Enjoy your ride and stay.
