As I’m working on some electrical gremlins in the 355 I’m wondering if Ferrari hires out the pre-corrosion work on electrical connections to an outside firm, or does it in house????

Dave, a good question. I have it from a good source Ferrari does all it's pre-corrosion work in house. A difficult procedure to say the least. Too much corrosion and the system fails under warranty, Bad. Too little corrosion and the system is as reliable as a Toyota, Bad. Good luck! I am also on a similar quest with my 355!

    I feel your pain....

I think there's an industrial spy from Corvette HQ (perhaps Agent Z06?) who uses a special mixture of water from the Great Salt Lake and Battery Acid to prep the connections before the final installation....

I don't really know what your 'gremlins' are but I put dielectric grease on every connector interface I could reach in my engine compartment. Before doing that I had some intermitent idle stumbles. The engine is very smooth now and has been since. :)

I have posted this many times before,..... the ECU depends on quite a few sensors to properly meter fuel, timing and idle air. The sensors are its only connection to what is happening to the engine in a given environment. These various sensors send voltages to the ECU. If any these voltages are attenuated by corrosion, the ECU will not get a correct signal. So th ECU will respond to erroneous sensor signals and the sensors keep sending bad voltages.... :( ........... this will perpetuate a cycle of mis-communication between the sensors and the ECU and finally your engine will just run/idle like crap... :(

Nothing as exotic as ECU sensors, it’s the gas flap solenoid connector. I cleaned it once, put Stabilant 22a on it, worked for a month.

I just now cut the connector off, and replaced it with a couple of T&B connectors.

PIA to get to, been putting it off, but now it’s fixed……….I hope

Did you check if the solenoid itself is sticking?

I have gas flap issues too that I should look into while I can get to it easy.

What is the correct way to 'apply' stabilant 22a? One drop on one side of each pin / connector?

Yup, I have found that lubing that gas flap solenoid with a shot of spray lube and working the plunger with your finger several times makes a huge difference in the operation.

I apply it with a modeling/hobby paint brush. Using an entire drop for such pricey stuff seems wasteful. ;)

Dave, does that really help? I am curious if that is a long term cure, if it is, I will rip out my fender liner and do the same! :)

I don’t know yet, but I have never seen a T&B connector loose conductivity. They’re the only brand of wire ends I will use.

Right now I’m waiting for a wheel to be painted (don’t ask) then I’ll give it a try.

Good thing it was the left rear wheel, made the gas flap job more palatable. :)
