I bought it off the head gardener to Dave Morrison, who owned Parabolica Racing as well as an F1 road car and LM3 before it went across the pond to Frank Selldorff. He got them as a thank you for doing good work over the years at DM's house (how DM got hold of it is unknown, but seeing as he owned 2 f1's and an f1 racing team....). He also had for sale a larger case, still in its bubble wrap, a torque wrench and he did have the car cover for LM3 before sending it to Frank

The one that left for TX is #003 I presume? From Symbolic? Did it really go for $2.5 Mil? Maybe Peloton25 or greghurst can answer this but how many road legal F1's are there in the US presently, or is the market so volatile that it is constantly changing? Also if imported can a GTR similar to that of the one that appeared on TopGear (comparing it to the Enzo) be legalized in the US?

    Thanks,
    RWFF

It is, chassis #003 the Ex Ron Dennis car that's been in Japan since early 1996.
    Apparently so.
The market is constantly changing, and at the moment there are at least 22 road cars and possibly 4 GTR's in the USA
I always wondered this. I assume it can come in under the Show and Display rules, and what with your highways being long and straight, it's got to be worth a try :)

The owner is not in Texas, it's in Houston for federalization and then it will ship directly to its new owner. I hear California or Nevada but I’m not sure.

Strictly a matter of interest, are there any more being offered for sale in the US currently? Is $2.5 Mil the norm? Was 003 brought to spec with modifications from the factory similar to what is being offered in the "supercar market" today, e.g. bt, nav., interior revamp, xenon, etc?

None that I am aware of. That price is pretty standard right now - partially due to the decreased value of the dollar against other currencies.

Hard to say what modifications #003 has received without contacting the factory. It doesn't have the xenon light upgrade but does have four air vents in the dash that it would not have had when it was first built. I don't see any navigation unit.

I posted the most likely info here.

How exact do you need? I know that 01R - 10R were all built in 1995 (10R being the first '96-spec GTR). Then 11R - 19R were built in 1996 (19R being the first '97-spec longtail GTR). Then 20R - 28R were all built in 1997.

It would be possible to narrow some of them down - especially the earlier chassis numbers based on the first race they appeared at, but beyond that I don't believe McLaren have published this information.

In other news, the burgundy F1 GT has been repainted.

And reupholstered from what I can tell. I wonder if he sent it to England for the work.

I like the new two-tone job but I think Burgundy compliments the car better.
