Sounds like a very tax-friendly province (even better then a lot of the states, including federal taxes). I've heard rumors that banks and financial firms are looking at Calgary down the line for moving their HQs. It's building up the tools to do it, with the expansion of service at the airport (getting daily non-stops to London Heathrow and Frankfurt through two terrific European airlines; with service to Mexico City; with more in the works).
Vancouver is one city that I can't wait to visit. The skyline (which I heard that the city is going to allow some taller buildings to make it even more dynamic), nature, and culture seem amazing.
Don't waste your money.....visit Toronto instead. We have a better skyline and far more culture. The nature, no so much! We do have a lake, but you can't swim in it.
There seems like a lot of members here with some experience with immigration laws. Question: I am a US citizen, built a house on PEI 3 years ago, been visiting for 7 years now. I was wondering how can I move to Canada (maybe duel citizenship), to stay for more than six months? I've been to Canada Immigration, but was handed soooo much paperwork to read.... I do not want to become a Immigration attorney to be able understand my various options! I've heard of "Residency Status", not sure exactly what it is though. I love Canada, best country in the world IMO. I also would like to bring my ferrari and porsche, but will I have to pay the 17% import duty bring in the country? Are there any Immigration attorneys as members here? I could use to hire one I guess. Thanks in advance.
Rich, I think you better get the immigration lawyer.... I just did the opposite, moved from Ontario to Florida and it would have been a total nightmare without a good lawyer. Well worth the $$ IMHO. I know Canada is a bit easier to get into than the States, however, there is still a ton of paperwork and bureaucracy to deal with.
Probably easy because of the commonwealth. My wife is from Grenada (West Indies) so she can technically have a Grenadine, British and Canadian citizenship and if my Italian citizenship goes through.... . I think you can only hold 2 at a time though... I'm working on my duel Canadian/Italian citizenship and that is fairly straight forward, actually I'm amazed at how simple a process it is. Then again I'm first generation Canadian of Italian decent.
Same here. It will be very easy. I got mine done years ago and It was straight forward. In fact, it was easier to get my passport via the Portuguese consulate here in Toronto than in Portugal. Just alotta paperwork.
Been to Toronto. Love the area. If the taxes got lower over time(income, capital gains, ect.) in the province; along with Canada's federal approach to cutting taxes and regulation, I would love to move to Toronto. Of course, being two hours or so just across the border makes it attractive to see family and friends.
Is Canada still receiving a huge amount of immigrants every year, or are the "standards" tighter. What ethic group do you see exploding in GTA right now?
Hard to say as I'm not an expert but I am sure many people are coming in. Hopefully for the good of Toronto and Canada My brother keeps his law practice busy with immigration cases. I'll ask him.
I think the ethic diversity makes Toronto amazing, while maintaining it's Canadian environment. The restaurants, the shops, the luxury hotels (including several that are being built), the lifestyle (for the "Ferrari" lifestyle to the middle-class) mixed with the business activity (being Canada's main center of business) makes it an incredible place.
Besides the Hot women, and no they are not taken that I can tell. However having said that the hot ones that are taken wear huge rocks on their hands. Anyways, be prepared to speak several different languages when you pull up to a Timmys. (Tim Horton Coffee) as no body there speaks English. Then the outside speakers make it worse! LOL
