I smogged the wrong car!!

Well the 355 passed smog no problem, only trouble is, it was the 360 that needed it! DUUUHHH.

In my defense I assumed it was the 355 because I just smogged the 360 last year. The $astards want me to smog the 360 every year and the 355 every two.
Strange peaple we have in charge in California.

At least the 360 passed as well, less than ten minutes.I went to the smog doctor on Camden ave. There is a guy there named Edwin who used to work at a referee station, he new excatly what he was doing. All is well.

 

Dan, clearly you can't handle this multi-Ferrari-ownership scenario. Especially when they're both red. I know, I know, it can be complex sometimes.

OK, I hate to inject a dose of seriousness here, but how the heck did the station let you smog the wrong car? Didn't the registration/smog notice have the car plate/VIN/model on it and didn't they enter that in the computer and check it before starting the test?

Odd, that should have popped right up on the Smog station's computer.

Why is the 360 required every year? I haven't heard of the every year routine before.

Yes our state does this sometimes. It's called profiling! If you ever had a marginal pass previously they know it. My 98 honda civic gets it everyyear due to a marginal pass. CALL the Bureau of Automotive Repair and the Department for Consumer Affairs and first ask them what gives and them give them an ear full. I'll do the same. Oh and unless they used the barcode at the top of the piece of paper that DMV mailed you nothing alerts a smog tech that he is smogging the wrong car.

 

That's odd. I have semi-street driven track car which has failed smog on two different occasions. DMV has still only required that I repeat the ridiculous process every two years. I'd have guessed that maybe they took milage into account as I've only put about 800 miles on the car each year, but Ferraris tend to be lightly driven as well and anyone could disconnect an odometer. Just more of our tax dollars at work I guess.

I'm sure that's what happened, I'm just surprised the tech was that careless. When I've smogged a car, the techs seem very careful to check the VIN against the smog notice. I just assumed that was a required part of the procedure as otherwise someone could try to smog a known good car in place of a heavily modded one.

Yes, I assume the tech was using the bar code. I have to bring my GTO's airbox in (which as the bar code on the label) to match the bar code on the registration. I guess I've been lucky that the 288 passes with flying colors. As it should using a pair of Porsche 911 turbo cats at a couple of grand a whack.

Still, that every year thing sounds like government run amok.

I thought it was odd as well, 360 every year, 355 every two! If you look at the smog test for each car the 360 burns slightly cleaner in each area, but both cars are way below the maximum allowed.
It seems as with most goverment agencies the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing!
