I have been following a post in the another section in which a hot debate is ranging on if the Challenge Stradale should be considered a Supercar. In my opinion, it should not be. It is simply a more extreme version of a 360 Modena. The Challenge Stradale is an outstanding Ferrari in its own right, just not a true ferrari Supercar. However it does open the question if any other models should be considered Ferrari Supercars. IMHO 3 come to mind, the 250 GTO, 250 SWB, and 275 GTB. Production numbers, performance in its time, and target customers fit the same profile as the later models.

I submit the following as evidence to support the 1st candidate:

Edie Sedgwick was the first "SuperStar" and the "Lamborghini Miura" was the first "SuperCar" so all that came before them were simply "Stars" and "SportsCars".

Yes but history is full of titles being applied retroactively. Octavian is considered to have been the 1st Roman Emperor, yet he was never called Emperor in his lifetime.

As this thread discusses the classics... it should be in the classics section.

    Dear Comrade Boxer365,

I concur totally with you. All the cars that you mention were, are, and indeed always will be supercars. Indeed, in their day the difference between the cars that you have mentioned and their comtemporaries were so disparate as to be analagous to being indigenous of the same planet but of an entirely different and autocorrelated world.

However, I seek your exoneration with regard to the Challenge Stradale as I did indeed commence a thread requesting that this most excellent motor car should be included here. I was hopeful that one or two of my compatriots holding a CS within their tutelage could then partake in the machinations of this den of nefarious spats and altercations and became an autochtohonous examplar.

    With kind regards,

    512 Tea Are

That thread was originally in this section and then it was moved since the CS is not a supercar. :)

The debate here is on if the 250 SWB, 250 GTO, and 275 GTB should be classified as Supercars. Hence my placing the thread in the Supercar section. If they are finally judged not worthy, then yes, it should be moved to the Vintage section. However until the community has been able to discuss it and a consensus built, then it should be moved back to the Supercar section.

Well, if you are going to include those cars, then you should also include the Daytona. It was the fastest road car in its day, still competitive in racing 6 years after the last one rolled off the line.

    Just my 2 pennies.

Please take this out of the vintage section.

    Thanks,

    Lol.

Question is whether it's a just "super car", or a "supercar" or maybe a "hypercar" or "ubercar"...

I disagree. Not until they are deemed to be supercars, should they be in the supercar section. By your logic, any car would warrant entry into the supercar section until voted down.

firstly a supercar is subjective.. the term itself is subjective..

its an endless debate and will never be resolved.

Supercar is one of the most ambiguous words in motoring. For 4/1 Rob should add a filter to the forum that turns 'supercar' into 'z06'.
