F430 Tubi Questions

I am trying to figure out all of the Tubi systems and which (if any) might be best for me.

What I am after is:

1. Sound louder, more exotic at WOT.
2. Sound pretty much the same as stock under normal driving conditions.
3. Better looking tips.

Is there some combination of Tubi systems that can get me there?

Are there other systems I should consider instead that will get me closer to what I am after?

As a 430 owner who previously had a 360 with a Stage II tubi, I'm perpetually frustrated by the lack of exhaust note on my new car. I've listened to a few 430's with modified exhaust systems and here's my personal opinion:

- The quick and easy "fix" is to pull the hoses off the exhaust valves and get that louder sound all the time. Problem is at low-RPMs the sound isn't very good, but as you accelerate, things get more interesting and you don't have to be standing on the gas all the time to keep the valves open (or closed... which ever way makes the louder sound).

- Simply bolting an aftermarket exhaust system to your car is one half-step up from pulling the hoses... the exhaust note is slightly "tuned" by the aftermarket exhaust, but doesn't sound remarkably different from the hose-job and is no way as drastic as bolting a Tubi onto the back of a 360, for example.

- The real solution is to do hyper-flow (other other high-flow) cats AND a tuned exhaust (Tubi, Capristo etc). This is the set up and sounds amazing. There's a guy in our "neighborhood" who did the hyper-flow/Capristo racing exhaust combo and the sound is epic. VERY loud and far more exotic than either of the options above.

Again... these observations are based on what I heard after tracking down and listening to examples in each of the above categories. What am I going to do you may be wondering... I'm going to wait until after my car's warranty expires before touching anything that touches the engine. Having been warned away from exhaust mods by the shop foreman at FoSV for fear of voiding my car's engine warranty, I've got 2.5 more years of stock exhaust sound left.

The Tubi tips look spectacular.

So, it sounds like I could pull the hoses to see how the stock muffler sounds sans valves. That's a step in the right direction.

Do the higher flowing cats affect sound quality? Do they boost power any?

Also, do any of the aftermarket systems actually provide much of a power boost? Or is it more of a sound thing?

If you pull the hoses (one on each side of the muffler) you need to plug them with something. People typically use a golf tee as it fits perfectly into the end of the hose and can be removed in 10 seconds to return the car to stock. You can tuck the now loose hoses up behind the hood latch mechanism so they don't flop about.

The high-flow cats, when joined with a performance exhaust (e.g., Tubi , Capristo etc) will definitely affect sound quality. This combo is incredible and, from what I heard last weekend, created an epic sound.

There's all sorts of conjecture and a few bits of actual data which suggest there may be a slight power boost on a dyno'ed car with hyper-flows etc. Some will say, when measuring with the seat of their pants, it feels faster... I just think it sounds faster.

For me it's all about the sound...

A dealer actually put a proper metal screw in the hose. The threads avoided loosing the plug.

 

I think the Novitec Tips look better as they are a bit larger than the Tubi. They just came out with tips with electric valves so you can switch the sound level from inside the car. Here is a picture of the Novitec Exhaust on my car.

Interesting... FoSV actually warned against pulling the hoses full-time. Perhaps they're being too careful. I wish there was a way to get an official "ruling" from FoNA on the whole warranty-exhaust mod thing.

What wheels are those? Do you have more pics of your car you can share? They look pretty hot!

 

The DEALER pulled the hoses on my car! when I came in they asked if I wanted them to do it I asked a few questions 1.factory issues? 2. sound & power changes, basicaly they said nothing to worry about from the Factory.. and the sound is better no power difference, If I didn't like it I could have them back the way they were in a jiffy. I love the way the car sounds I've driven it both ways and will leave it until I choose a different exhaust system.

Use vacuum hose caps, it takes less than 10 seconds to do each side and two tie wraps to hold the houses in place. I watched a guy do it and he flips the stuff around every time his going late night back home.

 

Many 430 coming into the shop with Tubi have check engine lights due to the tubi flow characteristics. The Exhaust flaps are not just there for sound they are tuned to the exhust cams variable timing. Bypassing or elliminating them will result in a loss of torque at mid to low range throttle. Check engine lights with adaptive or lean running codes are not covered under warranty and FNA may even void the warranty due to aftermarket exhaust.
