Dan, are you planning on repainting? The paint doesent look bad. But if you do i'd seriously consider redoing the rear window back to stock. I know you said you wouldnt worry about it but I think it's worth it. You've gone this far. :)

Yes... complete bodywork and repaint... but I'm not willing to spend to redo the rear window back to stock... I don't think it looks bad the way it is... I'll spend that money elsewhere... trying to stay within budget.

    Hi All,

on the subject of paint, I have to decide on which shade of red to paint the car and since I have the rear bonnet of a yellow 348 (where I believe the original paint code is located), I don't know what the original paint code was for this car. Now in searching through F-chat, I believe it might be 300/12 but the code could have changed through the years... can someone let me know what their red paint code is...

    Thanks
    DF

I believe that the most popular red color is ROSSO CORSA - FER 300.

At least that's what was specified when I needed touch-up paint for my Mondi in Germany a few years back...

    Hi Dan,

Great work you are doing there, I also own a ex Kuwait 348, mine is a 94 Spider. Your pics of the engine are very much the same as mine when I removed it, lots of sand and oil mixed together. It took lots of Paraffin brushed in all the nucks and crannies and a high pressure jet washer to remove it all..!!

By the way your 348 is fairly low mileage, mine has somewhere around 111,000 odd Kms on it.

Best of luck and keep up with nice work you are doing!!!

    Regards,
    Phil.

PS, love the coating on the headers!

    Hi All,

I went to the body shop this weekend to take a few pics to be able to follow the progression... basically, he said the body was not in as bad a shape as he initially thought. So far, he's repaired a myriad of dents and cleaned and mig-welded the buttresses (C-pillars) that were cracked.

I also had him look at the infamous rear window to see if any type of work had been done to close off this area and according to him, this came like this from the factory... once I can get better access, I will get in there, and take pics of the opening. If this is the case (factory window), I can only speculate that this was a prototype in 1989 and maybe sold in 1990... I don't know.

I plan to write a procedure on how to do this but for now, here are some shots of the old vs. new alternator (Delco Remy CS-130).

Basically I bought a CS-130 from Quick Start (http://www.alternatorparts.com/cs130_&_cs130d_alt.htm) and although the rear half of the casing is the same as my Ferrari alternator, the front isn't (and also unavailable from them either). After a chat with Randy from Quick Start, I discovered how easy it was to replace the front part of the alternator casing along with its bearing... so I did... and here is the result.

The pulley also had to be re-used...

    Total cost: 150$CDN

Hey Dan, looking good as it comes along.

Question : Are you not taking the glass out of the car ? Im thinking there maybe potential rust starting to form after 20 yrs in those parts underneath.
    Thanks for the pics !!
Cant wait to see what it will look like when your done, im assuming your trying to get her on the road for this year ?

    Hey Big Red,

It may be difficult to see from the last pics I posted but if you look closely, the rear glass is already out... new tempered glass has been ordered... no rust in that area.

The whole car is being repainted... I'm wrestling with the idea of going with the Enzo or F430 Rosso Corsa... not decided.

Target date for completion is early June... this is still supposed to be a winter project... and so far, still within budget.

Also I forgot to mention that the rear shocks are currently being rebuilt by DeltaVee... the odd thing is that they are different part numbers... One is 146291 and the other is 141858. Rob (DeltaVee) is looking to see if they have the same valving... but if you look closely, the amount of threads on the base of the shock is different from one to the other.

And finally, my A/C compressor will be sent this week to A-Air online (www.a-aironline.com) to get rebuilt for 195$...

    That's it for the updates...

    Hi Dan,
I see the rear now that you mention it ...lol.....i was talking more about the front windsheild.....good to hear about no rust in the rear deck lid. Looks like the June date is doable considering how far along you have come. I look forward to seeing this car this summer at one of our meets...all the best my friend !! Hope it comes out perfect for you !! Look forward to the rest of the pics along the way.

Dan, is that DEZ's (paint)garage? The 'surroundings' look familiar.

The windshield could have been removed but it would have been at my own risk... if the removal caused it to crack, I would have been on the hook for a new one...

Your doing a great job. Can't wait to see the finished product. I'm assuming you'll have it on Preston Street by mid June for the annual festivities.
