Thinking about replacing my 20 year old ADS towers. I have read good reviews about the above Definitive Technology speakers and still need to audition them. I have a somewhat acoustically challenging listening room and placement issues, so options like Martin Logans are out, and I'm interested in staying under 10K for the pair. Currently have Krell electronics--also thinking about upgrading my processor (maybe an Anthem D2?).

    Thoughts?

You need to audition them in your home, in your listening environment, then make a decision. Everyone has different ears and different hearing tastes :)

Yes, of course. I firmly believe in the home audition (your amps, your cables, your acoustics, etc.). I was hoping for comments on anyone who had these speakers, and/or anything else I might consider at a similar size/price point.

my opinion is biased. as i'm sure most opinions on speakers are. speakers are a very subjective thing. they are also probably one of the most overly expensive items you can buy. if you have up to 10k to spend, you have quite a selection available. Again, it depends on what you listen to and what you like to hear in your music. Speakers have very little money in the parts. if a 10k speaker has $1,500 worth of parts, i'd be surprised. So it's all mainly reputation and lots of advertising. Bose is a great example. I build my own high end stereo equipment, including speakers. So i won't recommend a particular manufacturer. But i would recommend looking seriously at some of the "off the radar" type manufacturers. Easily found mentioned in the stereo forums. There are some companies that will actually build you the exact speaker you want. You can spec the drivers and wood finishes. You can usually get a whole lot more speaker for your money. I personally like to go on audio asylum forums, but some may find them too techie. good place to look for leads though. Here are the speakers i currently like. But they are not really rock and roll speakers. more vocals. I built them myself so they were alot less expensive than the built ones.
