She is looking for an arguement. Be nice. Kill her with kindness. Tell her you agree with her completely and go about your business. After you have agreed with her a half dozen times or so she will go bother someone else. Be thankful your not married to her. Cheers
ROLMAO !!! thats a good one !! Ahhh come on Bman, maybe he is a very respectful man of his elders....i know it would be tough for me to confront an older lady.........well unless she had a hot a$$
My lovely neighbour sent me a letter yesterday. See below. Basically she wants me to turn the car off while I was waiting for the gate to be closed. I think that's nonsense. I talked to the RCMP in Richmond yesterday. The officer told me the bylaw for idling only applies to Vancouver, not in Richmond. However, he will still double check for me to make sure. I told him abt my case and he said he won't even consider it as idling. What I did was very reasonable and is done within a reasonable time. I am just waiting for the officer to confirm such bylaw doesn't apply to Richmond and I will reply her the letter. What bothers me the most in the letter is that why she only requests me to turn off the engine while everyone else in the neighbourhood does the same thing. I'm not suggesting that the OP be disrespectful. The OP simply strikes me as one who can't find his way out of a paper bag. I can see it now...the OP being nagged by a neighbour and this dude taking it. I'm not even going to hint at how I'd handle it. This boy needs to find his own way.
Not trying to be disrespectful, but I think you could teach her the same lesson whenever she (or her landscapers) uses a lawn mower. But I hope she won't go extreme some day and tell you that she starts cutting grass manually and it's time for you to ride bicycle.
It is at this moment when I test redline out a few times (presuming I've warmed the car in the garage). Fight fire with fire.
Edwin....... What you are doing with your car is totally reasonable and is considered normal. The police even told you that......and from my knowledge of how things work, a police officer or crown prosecutor would not pursue this. The law is designed to prevent delivery drivers and others from idling for 5-10-15 minutes at a time. Nothing more, nothing less. 1-Tell her you spoke to the authorities and that the bylaw does not apply to you and, if it did apply geographically, it would not apply in this instance, as you are not breaching the intent of the law. Also, tell her you could give a flying f_ about Newmarket as you don't live there. Offer to call the police yourself the next time you remove your car from the garage. 2-Explain that to her and if she does not get it.......tell her to FO in no uncertain terms and be utterly rude to her face about it. 3-Tell her if she broaches your property line, or has contact with you one more time, you will get a restraining order against her for harrasment.........and you will enforce it.
OMG! She's fuc*in' psycho!! If you could prove this (rally up the troops!) then this may be considered harrasment to an extent and could be grounds for a lawsuit. See if that might stop her from "single-ing" you out! I would, in a heartbeat!!!
Thanks guys for all the advice. I don't really worry abt this lady. I will just reply her letter. If she keeps bugging me, the officer already said he will come down to speak to her. I just thought this incident is kinda funny, that's why I post it here. At least u guys will know who am I when we have some gatherings during Spring and Summer. However, make sure the gathering doesn't start early in the morning. I am sure my lovely neighbour will come and kill me if my car wakes her up.
She doesn't realize that the issue of "idling" is something involving the TRUCKING industry, not CARS? That is because 18-wheelers sit and idle for hours and hours at rest stops. Note the Cummins logo on the printout she provided. What she is referring to is unrelated to automobiles.
This is going to become a much bigger issue in the near future for Ferrari owners I perceive. For some reason people don't equate SUV's and 4WD's as being wasteful but obviously a Ferrari is. I can see the "mob" picking on a Ferrari one day and causing many $'s worth of damage in some sort of protest ... Ferrari need to do something to show they are on the same page as the rest of the world (and producing a SUV is not the right answer). Producing a smaller more efficient Dino like car like the current Lotus, that is the bare bones and bloody light is the way to go. The days are numbered for flashy unnecessarily heavy cars like the current Ferrari range. Pete
Maybe they can build the most powerful electric engine and thus the fastest accelerating hybrid One has to move forward ... Pete
We have some, What's a big SUV? Hummer H1? everything else you see every 5 mins in the lower mainland, what do you drive?
