I don't think 12k miles for a performance tire is short-lived. Do any of you?
i think 12k miles is insanely awesome.. my NSX's barely made 5k miles and didn't expect my F430's to get much past there but my 05 430 was at 7k when i traded it and tires were still very good (had Pirellis). my 07 has only 1500 miles so far so we'll see and it has the Bridgestones.
hahahaha exactly, I can't hear myself think let alone worry about tyre noise I'm running Michy sport now but Kuhmos on the second set of wheels sounds good from some of the experiences here
sounds good actually, the Michelin Sport Cups only last 5,000 kms (3,000 miles) according to other Fcar owners I know that run them The Michelin Sports I run are suppose to get 20,000 kms (12,000 miles)
They have been around for a while up here in Canada and I used them periodically, they seemed to be quite good for my BMW and Porsche and I have tried Pirellis and Goodyear like I'm sure everyone here has and I was not impressed at all with them the only good thing about them was the name. By the way most of you are misspelling them it's Kumohs no Kumhos...lol..I can see why it was funny
You think 12k is bad? The Yokohama A048s on my Lotus are supposed to last 7-8k miles! I stretched them to 10k and just ordered a set of Toyo R888s for $750
NEVER again. I had a set of Kumhos on my E24..I don't remember what subtype. They were horrible in rain and water! No grip at all (esp. relative to my S03s). I guess the point is mute for many Ferrari's, but I would never risk that again.
Ten years ago I went Pirelli on a Integra, I just don't get "cheap tires" on any car I'm driving: NOTHING matters as much as the four little contact patches. Car suspensions are optimized with certain tire characteristics as known parameters, fitting a set of low-wear econo-donuts can reduce the performance of a car like a Ferrari dramatically. Would anyone retrofit Fe brake disks when C-Ceramic OEMs had given out, just to save a buck? Autozone shocks for Skyhook?
I agree. I had them on a Honda S2000 and an Acura NSX and got rid of both sets quickly. They aren't bad tires for casual driving but they give up quickly if you push the car at all.
They are great tires for the money on the road and track. I can't see spending twice the money for a track tire unless you are racing professionally. I have them on my C5, bug, and the 348. The cobra gets the nitto drag radials! ;o) Scott
Its not that much cheaper to buy KUMHO tires instead of Bridgestone. The price here in Sweden at least is as follows: KUMHO SPT KU31 = $560/4 KUMHO KH11 = $570/4 BRIDGESTONE TURANZA ER300 =$750/4 (On my daily driver) GOODYEAR EAGLE F1 GS-D3 =$680/4 MICHELIN from $880/4 to $1120/4 but I will never ever use Michelin again, they make to much noise. IMO $120 - 190 is nothing to whine about, safety first economics second. (And I dont make much more money than the average income taker) Say you use the tires for a year if you wear them out fast and you went for the Bridgestones like I did. That makes $0,50 a day extra. I bet most of you smoke, eat candy, drink coke or consume other unhealthy stuff more expensive than that every day. Am I wrong?
How in the world do you get 12,000 miles on a set of tires on your Ferrari? I am lucky to get 4,000 miles on a set of rears! My F40 never gave me more than 3,000 miles on a set. My 550 is a real tire eater, 3 sets in 12,000 miles. I would consider myself either lucky or ashamed to get 12,000!
Just replaced OEM tires on my RS4 (P-zero Rossa's) at 9500 miles. On the Lotus, rears are gone and fronts have 1/3 left at 4400 (Exige S).
I have Kumhos on my 355. Not my choice but they were put on by the a**hole who I bought the car from. I think they are great performing tires. They grip wonderfully. As for the way they look, I am not such a fan. When they wear out, I will go with a set of name brand tires.
