    Has anyone ever seen a 308 with red fog lights under the rear bumper? I've only seen one picture of these in the Ferrari V8 book (on one side). My car (a 1983 QV from France) is wired for both a right & left side and according to my OM (and pictured), goes on with a separate toggle sw on the console where I've noticed other cars (U.S. versions?) have the rear window defrost sw (next to the hand brake lever) and is indicated "on" with the yellow light left of center in the tach (by the blue high beam indicator). This light is red for brake system warning in one U.S. OM I have.
    My Euro OM shows these rear fogs on the wire diagram, the page with the rear lights all pictured and I've confirmed there are unconnected wires in the rear for them in the correct wire colors.

    Questions:
    Should I put them in if I can get all the parts?
    Does anyone else have these on their Euro's?
    Does anyone have pictures of them?
    Are they even legal (in California)?

    You Euro guys especially - talk to me!!

    Interesting... my euro does not have that feature mentioned or listed. Where did you obtain that diagram? Owners manual? It has the tail lights reversed (red on outside and yellow turn / reverse) lights on inside. Red fog lights? I know in most states red is okay as long as it is not visible from the front and does not flash. any clear lamps are not legal illuminated from the rear except reverse lights as long as they only come on when going in reverse.

    However if the wiring is there then it much be a French thing.... those crazy french! it aslo dosen't mention what "E" is in English but I think it says "Directional signal"

    I have the same style on my 1981 Euro Mondial-8.

    But, in the USA, Bright Red lamps are illegal on the back,
    because they look like stop lamps.

    My actual rear light lenses are the same as most 308 U.S. cars are. The booklet picture (yes that's my own OM for my car) shows an orientation that is not even possible to re-position the lenses/functions as the diagram shows, with the taillight parts I have in place now. I bet they may have "Americanized" mine to the current layout here in the U.S. as one requirment for entry.

    More mystery!!

    I do have a friend's old '82 308 OM (U.S. version) that its (same) diagram shows the "correct" U.S. way. So it seems there definitely different OM entries on things depending upon what year/model car is paired with it.
    More reason to beware of mixing up wiring schematics between diferent cars.

    Any chance of posting a few lower level close up pictures of the light module and mounting method? I'd like to see if it's that same one I should get. Also, can you tell if it's a Bosch, Cibie or other brand unit?

    Do you have a parts blowup of your car showing that light and its part #? My blow up shows the part as #60670000 as does McCann's website. McCann also shows an alternate number (Bosch #1305620243).

    My 84 euro 308 had the reverse lights on the inner, I moved them to the outer... I thought it was a screw up on my car being all other cars I see have the reverse lights on the outer and the brake lights on the inner...

    No, not true. Audi and several others have rear fog lights.

    Yes, rear fog lights are legal and several European manufacturers offer them.

    The Ferrari number is #60670000, but you might be better off buying from a Bosch outlet.

    In my ’90 Mondial t, the switch is # 137491.

    I'll be damned. I checked my OM and I have the same diagram. Then I went down to my '85' Euro 308 and checked the rear but there were no red fog lights below the bumper. Interesting, learned something new.

    It seems they were an option so most cars do not have this. Check your wiring at the rear tailights inside the back wall. I'll bet you have orange colored unconnected wires there in the harness ready for lights, and probably the gray/blk, orange & orange/blk wires in the console too. My schematic diagram and number key says the related components are as follows:

    #54 - (orange/black wire) - "warning light for rear fog"
    #66 - (gray/black, orange & orange/black) - "feed supply to rear fog"
    #117 - (orange wire feed) - "cable available for rear fog"

    I always wondered what those extra wires were for. Checked a recheck to see if the did anything...... and nope.

    I'm an accessories addict I guess! If it was an option or stock on the car, I must have it. Besides, it would make my car a bit different from the other fifty kazillion red 308's out there still. I must be sick.........

    I can't tell from your profile pic if you have the Euro side markers on your car or not. My 328 has the Euro and US markers on it . If I ever paint it the US markers will be removed.

    Mine are US. No round type evidence remaining in the rear. The front lights were added as they were spliced into the harness with those blue plastic splice connectors (an aftermarket - DOT conversion method?).

    No, I didn't mean specifically you. I meant it more as a general question of utility.
    On another note, do you have the front fog lights? I could not tell from your photo.

    Not sure Branko. Do the front amber daytime flashers (see my avitar photo too) also act as front fog lights? The rears are meant to act as a warning to cars behind. I think the lense puts out a special beam rearward so as not to glare as much as the running or stop lights (just a guess).

    Northern Italy is very foggy during winter time. Rear fog lights is must have, and yes, the front flashers double up as front fog lights. Europeans tend to use their car on a daily basis.

    It is my understanding that F-cars intended for Switzerland, Germany, & France were equipped w/yellow lenses/Benelux and wired not as fog lights but for daylight flashing to warn the car in front of you of your intentions of passing them (remember the old James Bond & other movies?). Instead of a separate switch activating the fog lights, the daylight flashers were activated by pulling the headlight stalk towards you.

    Bob,

    The Euros have only front round side markers. Your DOT conversion front and rear side markers are narrower than the OEM North American version markers, much like the markers fitted for the Japanese market.
