I've got the gas cap and actually entire gas filler housing as a complete unit that was obtained by a local witness to the crash of Stefan Erikssen's Enzo on the Pacific Coast Highway from a couple years ago. I bought it off Ebay at the time, but have lost interest and don't have any reason to keep it. I also have a CD-Rom full of photos that were obtained at the crash scene, right after it happened, by the same guy who picked up the gas cap/filler housing. I guess this is as close as you can get to "documentation" that it's real.

Does anyone have any idea what it's worth, or how to place "value" on something like this?

...Or maybe it has no value, and I should just throw it away...

Anyway, thought I'd run it by you. Thanks!

It certainly has value, but how much is entirely up to the marketplace and what one is willing to pay for it. As time passes, and this incident becomes less fresh in the public's mind, I would think the value will only go down in the near future. But 25 or 30 years from now, it may rise up as some sort of interesting "trinket" from an infamous crash. ;)

I bet a piece from a 250 GTO crash would be worth a lot today.

I doubt it. It would depend on the item, and the car and driver's significance. That all builds the appeal, which creates the demand and value for the item.

I'll post some pics in a bit. My girlfriend is the photographer of the household. The housing actually appears to be fiberglass. There's a little white sticker on the inside of the housing that has the following text, hand written in black ink: "S/N 257" I guess that means his car was serial number 257? Probably someone who has a register of the Enzo owners and their serial numbers could verify this... The same sticker also has the year "2003" hand written, along with some other illegible text. The other interesting thing to note are the lines drawn around the edges of the inside of the housing, in blue ink. It appears they were used to line up the part with something else.

It still smells like gas!! :)

The only thing more perplexing to my girlfriend than the fact that I've been holding on to this thing is that I've now asked her to take photos of it for me to post online! She can't figure out why in the world anyone would have interest in a piece of junk from a wrecked car. :)

Yes the incident is over, but I'd be careful about posting evidence from a crash that was stolen from the scene....Just a thought.. With this in mind--I'd be willing to take it off your hands for $50...:D:D:D

I'd give $75 for it ;)... not sure what I'd do with it, but I'm sure I could put it on the shelf with the 1:12 Enzo...

I could have beat that... then you had to take it over the top with a bag of Skittles. No one will ever be able to top that!
