    Hmmm... just a thought here.

Notice how the black portion of the rear bumper ties the blacked out portions of the bonnet with the 'between the lights' panel and the lower valence exhaust opening. I suspect Pininfarina wanted to add some 'vertical' element to the rear of the car in order to not overly accentuate the already strong horizontal line.

The TR with a smoothed rear bumper must look SUPER wide & low!

The TR is the most undervalued ferrari out there, I want one and one day I hope to get one. I think they look dated but thats not a bad thing to me. The rear 3/4 view is to die for.

According to red-headed.com, only the USA and Japan versions of the TR have those black rear bumpers

I read about taking off the rear bumperette nd had to see for myself-

Took about an hour. You can see where the 4 holes are for the studs in the back of the bumperette. 13mm socket for the back side. removing the lower grill helped on access. License plate lights had to come out to slide the bumperette off.

Can you actually get into the TR without pulling the 308 out of the garage? I know I couldn't - I had to turn my garage into a 1 car garage...

Silver looks great. Red was way overdone, including my 308.
    Cheers, thanks for the replies.

Hello Testarossa Lover, your car looks totally awesome! As has been said, the 512TR wheels, with painted lowers...looks terrific! Silver really shows off the lines of the car. Is your interior all red or is it red with black? Would you mind posting some more pics, either here or in another section or thread? TRs in silver are pretty rare - and that's too bad because they look great in silver. I would really like to get a set of 512TR wheels for my TR, I'm currently running at set of 360 Modena wheels and while they look great and really modernize the look, my heart lies with the 512TR wheels. Your car looks just great and you must be very proud!

Just out of curiosity, what is the average running cost (per annum) of a testarossa if it were to be driven (lightly) daily? With prices like these, it seems like a good time for someone to get into a V12.

    BS factor or REAL?
Figure oil change at $240.00 every 3,500.00 miles or yearly which ever. Use Quaker state works better. The DREAED MAJOR ENGINE OUT $1,800.00 in parts plus a trained person to due it. Figure that on a REAL TIME bases of 7,500 miles and or 5 years. The real time is 15,000 miles. Other than gas and such that is it.
BS factor is $2,400.00 for an oil change and $25,000.00 for the major. That is what you say at a bar to a Yugo owner.
    Mine is still for sale.

if your gonna take the engine out yourself, and do all that is necessay than you can expect to pay alot less, $1,800 is only if your doing belts...if you dont know how to do 1 valve adjustment, 48 might be a challenge :D Taking the car to get the full service at the dealer or an independent here are some REAL numbers.

The high prices are real. Those are the prices folks pay, if they just want to drop it off and the dealers and get it done. And if thats within your budget and lifestyle, then by all means do it. The last major on my car by the prior owner was darn near $15,000 from what I remember ... There are also people who pay $200 for a haircut. More power to you.

Then, there are what I like to call the handyman ferrari fixers. We have a large amount of these folks on here, and thats how I would classify myself. I can do the work, and do it right, with the help of others and ferrari-chat. I love working on cars, as its therapeutic. Is it cost efficient? Maybe. It would probably be more cost effective for me to work a bit more at the day job, and just pay for a major... but then that would mean I have to be at work more... we don't want to do that ;). For this select group of folks, testarossas aren't nearly as expensive, as labor is free :). Parts though, are still eye watering.... $2000-$3000 complete majors are very do-able. Honestly, if I had ever intended to do major at a dealer, would never have bought a testarossa. Common sense would prevent me from spending 20% of the cars value on a glorified "tune up." Perhaps one day I will view $10,000 as pocket change...but right now I don't.

And then, I suspect there is another tier of testarossa owners, who manage to keep these cars going on the cheap. You know, GM fuel pumps, FIAT fuel filters, etc. if you really really wanted to, you could keep a testarossa going on $200 a year. I really believe that. Resale though...wouldn't be pretty...

    Dear Ferraristi,

    mksu,

If you're really looking for a Ferrari to buy, I really suggest the Testarossa/ 512/ M series. They are really really great cars. If I sold mine, I wouldn't be buying another F car but would add another Lamborghini.

They are great everyday cars and the large trunk makes it very pratical. (ok, Im being relative here ;) )

As Flaver-Flav once said " Don't believe the hype" !
