I have what is now an aging HP pavilion PC with an f50 flat screen monitor. Lately the monitor has taken to blinking then totally blacking out for about three seconds. It usually does this once after I "wake" it up, then it seems to be fine. Has been doing it pretty consistently almost every time. I've checked the cables but unplugging and plugging back in didn't make any difference.

Any ideas, or is it telling me it's time for a new monitor?

    Thanks,
    John

Did you have a storm, if you did, and don't have a surge protector, might be the reason, sometimes my monitor did that when the power went out.

No storms recently and I do have a surge protector. I tried cleaning the plugs last night and it didn't seem to do it today when I got on the computer. We'll see, maybe that's all it was. I still have some stabilant out in the garage, maybe I'll go over the computer plugs with it.

sounds like the backlight of the monitor could be dying

That's what I was worried about but why does it only do it after initially waking up? It did do it again today. I usually only fully turn the system off about once a week. Other than that I just let it go idle until I get back to it again. I'll keep trying but worst case is it finally dies and I have to buy a new one!
