I'm tooling with the idea of an Exotic run, kind of like the ones fellow Fchatters enjoy in California, etc. Except we would have it in Maine in the summer.

We could have it sometime during the summer. I've found some great driving roads, and we could make a pretty big loop (~50-75 miles). Some with big straights, and with curves.

This is what I have in mind:

    1. Idea 1: meet up in Kennebunk Port sometime at noon, do the run on some back roads, and then come back around Dinnertime, where we could go to a local seafood place, called Landing's, which has some great seafood, and it's right in the port, so it has a great view of the water. Basically get to know each other better. Or meet up at K. Port around lunchtime, do lunch, then go on the run.

    or.

    2. Idea 2: Meet up somewhere in Southern Maine, and make a run to Mt. Washington, maybe go up the Mountain itself, and then come back into North Conway, where we could grab something to eat. Around lunch time or in the afternoon, etc.

Would anyone be interested for something like this during the summer in Maine? I'll be open this summer, and mostly likely could put it together, if there is enough people, who sign up.

It sounds like a great idea, I like the North Conway idea more, less congested roads. It would have to be on a Sunday for me to make it, Saturdays are a busy work day for me.

I would be very inerested in joining in. August would be best for me.

If at all possible, a weekday run would likely see the least traffic on the roads. I'd be willing to take a vacation day for this cause.

I would be very interested in your Maine run. I recently purchased a 1999 360 modena in late November from Ferrari of New England. I was only able to log 200 miles before the ice and snow feel. I am looking for fellow Ferrari members to ride with. I live in Scarboro and would be up for any meet or ride.

I would be very interested. There is a Lotus run in the autumn which I have gone on two years running. We meet up in Hookset NH make our way towards ME, then towards Conway (i really dont remember that well, not great with directions) I think we did close to 300 miles that day.

I find it sad that there aren't more drives in the New England area. It seems like in NY forum they have one every weekend!

I very well may be. I don't know what normal driving etiquette is for these things, but my 308 is a "cruiser" by comparison to some our your more modern examples. As long as it's a drive, perhaps with some spirited segments, and not a "race" then cool.

I've been on several Ferrari 'run's, and you wind up with two distinct groups - Vintage and Entry-level cars, tenderfoots, and Wife-Passengers who don't like to go fast. Then there's the guys with new cars, fire-breathers who want to go DEEP into triple-digit-speed territory. You can't keep the two groups together - what happens is, group one gets left behind/lost, group two sails ahead, group one arrives at the party late/pissed, and that's not much fun. People don't show up or come-back to such events if slower groups are left-behind to 'fend for themselves' while the newer-machine drivers get their thrills and flirt with disaster on public roads. A great drive is a WELL-PLANNED event, which means there is a route mapped-out far in advance, put down on paper, and given to everyone so people do not get lost. Fuel and restroom stops are part of the itinerary. Various members of the group have Motorola Talkabouts with 5-mile ranges so people in the back stay in-communication with the folks up-front. If somebody spots a speedtrap, everyone in-back finds out about it and nobody gets "pulled". The people up-front genuinely try to stay together with everyone else - the group should try to arrive at locations semi-together - cell-phone numbers are passed around, so if someone breaks-down along the way, nobody is stranded in the middle of nowhere with zero help - its happened.

sounds like a lot of work. but I'd be up for it!

I'm getting my license sometime during the summer, so I would be coming in a "normal" car. I just hope, I don't fail the 1st time :)

North Conway is great, but some spots especially around Fyreburg are very annoying because they have next to nothing cell coverage. If anyone gets lost, they're stuck...

I've been with relatives to N. Conway twice, and most of the time, it was just straights with 35mph-50mph limits. Sometimes even less then that. We would have to find some better roads around that area.

Well, I'm coming from Southern Maine, so it would be from the other way. I wouldn't mind knowing these curves are.

I don't have an issue if the speedsters want to go on ahead, but agree that if things are done well, we'll all know where to go next and we'll all leave from there together at a set time. It does mean they will have more down-time at the rests, but that's not too big a deal.

In the past, Shawn (aka "Keeper") has done an EXCELLENT job organizing his runs. When we meet everyon e is given a detailed itinerary including gas stops, bathroom breaks, etc. There were addresses and and ETAs for all of our stops in case anyone got seperated. I think being organised like this is crucial to make sure that everyone enjoys their drive.

But to Rich's point, you appear to be a young enthusiast without a license yet or an exotic. While I am impressed by your posting, maturity and organizational skills and would be happy to have you along on a drive, I do think that people will want someone who's an owner and has more experience with this kind of event to be the sponsor. Fair or not, it's not likely to be taken seriously otherwise. Maybe someone else will step and volunteer for that duty.

I used to 'run' with some guys down in the Mid-Atlantic region.....those guys know how to run a high-speed convoy. We never lost anybody, got through speedtraps, everyone arrived in-style, and we had LOTS of opportunities to wind things up. So long as you have good in-car communications (those cheap Motorola Walkie-Talkies with earbud extensions are great), and the leader is calling out turns/hazards ahead of time, you don't even need a map or directions. Things can be pretty spontaneous - if somebody needs gas or make a pit-stop, they just holler out over the radio so the group leader can look for a place to stop.

I love the FCA Fall rallys before the Brazillian Grand Prix - Dennis Liu wrote everything down and distributed great copy for everyone. Problem was, we had over 40+ cars - staying together? Fugggetaboutit. Good thing a lead car had a co-pilot who was good with printed directions - groups of five-to-eight cars played 'follow-the-leader' through South-Central MA while the lead car kept the rest of us on-course. Its hard driving through narrow back-country roads, hustling, and trying to read a printed map at the same time....I'm still toying with a Spring Restaurant Run on the 'other site'. Stay tuned.

BTW, Kenny is real-good, too....he knows some great roads South-of-Boston that are a lot of fun. Can ya tell I'm into the 'Group Thing'? LOL.....

yup, I understand what you're saying. If this run does happen, it doesn't look like there will be 40. Looking at the thread, maybe 5-10 people will attend, if it does happen.

I hate to bust your bubble, but unless you're 'known' in some club circles, and have considerable experience actually driving a car, and very-familiar with the local roads/driving conditions/law enforcement/etc. nobody is coming to Maine.

maybe, we could go from Southern Maine (Portland, scarborough, etc) to Hooksett, NH, and then to Conway?
Fyreburg is over the Maine border, and Hooksett to Conway, I would think, would be faster, but from Hooksett to Conway is ~95 miles also. This way is much longer.

To save off about 20 miles:

I was looking at google maps, it's ~95 miles from Scarborough, Me to Hooksett, then from there to North Conway is 95 miles again. If we went from Hooksett to Fyrebyrg, that's ~65 miles, then North Conway is about 10 miles from there. This would be a little easier. Then we could go a little inland, about 15 more miles on the road that needs to Mt. Washington, and our final stop would be there. Nice scenery, plus nice cars.

If we make it in good time, a trip up the Mountain would be nice. It only takes about an hour or so. How do Ferraris perform @ high altitudes?

    let's see what happens...

there isn't any "clubs/circles" here, unless you want to get into the "ricer" group around here, called Southern Maine imports. but they're basically all Civics w/ coffee can exhausts.

So maybe some people from Maine could start up a "club" or sorts with owners, enthusiasts, etc.
