Sadly its original engine was swapped with another LP400's one. It's better to check the actual engine number.

 

And this affects its value, ergo its pricing at $375k...

The last few cars we sold were $500k, $450k and $455k respectively, not to mention the RHD auction car at $485k plus fees etc.

The engine number is 1120068 I beleive.

I just noticed in the 2008 Sports Car Market Pocket Price Guide they list two different kinds of LP400.

The first one they list is:

Yrs. Built # Made Low High

Countach LP400 (Periscopo) 74-76 110 $150,000 $200,000


Then below that, they list:


Countach LP400 77 40 $85,000 $120,000

Countach LP400S 76-82 235 $85,000 $105,000

Below that they cover the LP500S and the other variants of the Countach.
See that they list two types of LP400?.....One called LP400 (Periscopo) (sic) and the other just LP400. Are they just wrong? I thought all LP400 cars were periscope cars and there were around 150 total. I've seen more than one LP400S with a periscope roof, but never a LP400 without that roof. What's going on here? I also notice that their values seem kind of low, but that's probably because those clowns never have seemed to like Lamborghinis.

 

SCM is a little behind the times in terms of both the market and received wisdom as it relates to Countach variants

A little "off the mark" indeed.

 

Yeah no kidding. Funny this came up. I read myself to sleep last nite reading an 04 issue of Thoroughbreads & Classic Cars mag and it states the price guide for "bargain cars" like the LP400 LOL. They quoted 38K-40K pounds!!! LOL. Let's just say I woke up quik and had to check the date.

Amazing where these prices are going.

 

Not only they are "...a little behind the times.." - they simply have no clue!!! They only understand Ferrari!

is this swap happended at factory before delivery?

if this is the case the owner of the other LP with correct engine number was likely interested swapping it again

 

Maybe the swap was done a few years ago.

As a matter of fact, it was done in contemporary times, and 1120068 barely exists with the former engine of 1120162 and a good case may be made for both cars getting their original engines back one day.

if memory serves this is an S2 lowbody
and the VIN is 112115x (i have to check my files for exact number)

In the original red car photos on Page 1, I like those wheels better than any wheels that ever appeared on the Countach.

As far as the green car photos on the mid-pages, that green is not a great color for that body style for some reason, but that's my opinion.
