Hello all, Is there any difference in these? I always knew headers make the car breath better. But the 308s have headers and wasn't sure if it's worth it. I found this ad on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290209220097&rd=1 I couldn't find the Tubi ones to compare. Any thoughts? Thank you.
They say in their ad copy you have to hear it to believe it...all I hear in the background of that video is KC and the Sunshine Band singing "get down tonight..."
I would not believe ANY of the power numbers they are supplying. There are much better things you could do with your car for almost three and a half grand! Hell, that's half the price of a super charger kit.
I would LOVE those headers, however I would not want to pay more than 50% of what they are asking. If you found a good custom fabricator, I wonder what they would charge to make up a set using the existing headers as a template? Some of this "Ferrari Pricing" is just assinine! JIM
I have Tubi headers on my Euro 328. Search Stebro here , you have a 50/50 shot of being very happy or waiting months for product or refund
I had mine fabbed for $2500 a couple of years ago (Quicksilver in England) They weren't near as shiny as these.
Superformance have them in Stainless but I dont think they are claiming it as a performance header.Still $1300 for a pair is pretty cheap. http://www.superformance.co.uk/a-308/exhausts.htm
No idea. The were on the car when I bought it. It does sound good with the Tubi headers and muffler though
I don't know if this is true, but does his claim sound about right of any performance header? "These manifolds were designed to : 1) Increased flow(+45%) over the original restrictive design. We achieved this with larger pipe diameter and a unique 4 into 1 merge collector design. 2) Increased power (+18hp) and increased torque(+16ft/lbs). 3) Reduced weight by 34%. 4) Reduced engine bay temperatures over the original manifolds (-5% reduction)." I agree too, a little pricey.
I agree Chris,a little too many claims. How the hell do you get it to be 34% lighter?Alluminium????????
Not sure what you mean by a "performance header." Headers are by nature a performance item, I would say. It all sounds pretty bogus. The exhaust valve size and exhaust ports of the heads are going to be the first limiting factor on flow. The header pipes are going to have to be the same small size to match up to the heads no matter who makes them. Yeah, I suppose you could then make the header tube diameter larger after that but I don't know that you would actually gain anything. It's my understanding there are two basic types of header collectors.... 4 into1 and 4 into 2 into 1. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. It's always a compromise of some sort. You gain something here you lose something there. The folks at Ferrari were not fools. Don't you think if you could gain 18hp and 16 ft. lbs. from a small design change they would have done it? There are not a lot of magic horsepower hidden away that Ferrari somehow missed. Granted the ceramic coating available now might give a small advantage over the original parts... maybe a little more power and reduced temperature. Well, I'm not an exhaust expert but that's my take on things.
I just installed a new set of headers from Rutlands, (85QV Euro)they came from EuroSpares , this is coupled to my Stebro, I made my own tips ........the sound is incredable.......I just threw out my radio........no longer needed !!
In the middle of Russ's threads is a good header comparison, and search on Stebro....... I have heard good things on Quicksilver but I only replace mine when the old ones frag out, no idea on HP gains but the new ones are quieter than none at all! Actually, I have been lucky to find used OEM ones, but they are scarce now......
OEM Ferrari tubing IS undersized against the head ports, as you say you'd have to pattern match to see much gains but there are other more limiting flow factors, IMO.....but yea, you are right we have "headers" to start with as opposed to cast manifolds or something......
I have a 78 308 and I am going to install a Tubi this week. My mechanic said don't worry about the horse power what you are really going to get is increased cooling, sound and maybe a little powers but only count on sound and cooling.
