I removed my drivers door panel today to complete some work. I took detailed pics of the process. What is the easiest way to post a writeup --A how to for everyone. I guess I can go into Word program and do a writeup and insert pics along the way and save that---How do I share this with everyone afterward??? I have seen some guys do this in a PDF format and post the link...Any suggestions? Would like to do a step by step with pics, etc...

Do it in Word, then print to pdf using a redirector like PrimoPDF. Or send me the text and images and I'll post them in my manual. I have a text writeup on door panel removal in there, but no pics.

Just put your text in a post and upload the images. If you are OK with it, I'd like to add it to my manual.

Ok, here is the super easy way.

    Go to blogger.com.
Create an account--something like [email protected]. If you have a gmail account already, you have a blogger.com account with the same username/pwd.
Create a blog--something like "Ferrari Manual by fchatter 285Ferrari".
It will take you to a page where you get to choose a url for the blog. Select something like 328DoorManual.blogspot.com
Make the blog public...unless you want it private and you want to send the link to your friends only.
Click on Edit. It will take you to a page where you can edit blog entries.
Edit the blog. Type in and edit text. Insert pictures by clicking on the picture icon. Same for video, web links, etc.
    When done, click on publish.
You can see the published page. It will also have the url if you can't figure it out from your profile settings. Copy this url.
In your email or on fchat, just post the URL. People will be able to see your text and pictures on your "blog."

Remember, you can always change things and keep refining and adding to your "manual".

BTW, it will help to have your pics in the correct order or renamed with nice descriptive names and in an easy to find directory that is not buried too many levels deep. Otherwise it gets tedious to find the right picture to post in the right place when you are creating your blog entry.

Also, if you upload your pics to a picture sharing service like photobucket or flickr, you can edit your blogs and insert your pics from any computer anywhere...you just insert the links to the online pics (which photobucket and flickr provide) and blogger pulls them in...just for future reference! :)

You could do it here by putting in the text and pic for each step in a separate post. If you number each post as Step 1 of 34 or whatever, people would wait till you were done before replying. It's awkward...but it can be done. But editing each post is only possible for an hour after posting. Not the best way to do it...

Had thought about that also---but trust me some duma$$ would post something in the middle of it for sure... That def. be the easiest way and guys could save the post to their favorites list... Or do what this thread says--but I can't figure out how to SEE the attachment IDs..

Robbie.... add the images to your post. Then, in the little window where you've been adding/uploading the images, rollover with the mouse on the "attached filename" (like "door2.jpg". At the bottom of the browser, it will display the URL where that image is actually stored on the Fchat server. Within that long gobbled text, you'll see the phrase "attachid=12345678". Write down that "123456578" number.

Now, go back to your post where you'd like to insert the in-line image. Type [atach]12345678[/atach] where the "12345678" is the actual number you wrote down.

You MUST spell the word "attach" properly. I needed to use only one "T" simply for illustrative purposes.

ps. Yes, I'm up at 4:00am with the mother of all colds. I think my head is going to fall off.

No, it wouldn't be the easiest way. Blogger is far easier and better.

If you want to do it and prevent anyone else from posting while you are doing it, you can simply prepare each post in a new window, arrange them in order on your screen, and then hit post and close each window sequentially--will take very little time unless you have 100+ pics and posts. You can also ask a moderator to move any unwanted comments to the end. I don't see why they wouldn't.

Hmmm, pics go where the cursor is...don't know what you are doing differently. But there are two tabs...if you click on the other tab, you can see the html code. It's not necessary to edit the code or understand it, but you should be able to make out your text blocks and each of the blocks that references a picture. Move them around as needed, and it should appear in exactly the same order when published.

    Good luck.
