Word is that the new car, which Ferrari plans to debut at the Paris motor show in October,...The new Ferrari will spearhead the Italian brand's push toward 10,000 cars a year. It will be assembled on a refurbished Maranello production line with less in-house manufacturing than ever before.

...Ferrari has tested the F149 in and around the Maranello factory with almost complete immunity from spy photographers, because most have been fooled by its disguise as a Maserati GranTurismo convertible. The F149 will be based on heavily modified GranTurismo architecture, which means the big Maserati coupe has provided the perfect cover for Ferrari's most important debutante.

...We hear that the car's design and engineering have created seething frustration inside Maserati. Sources confirm that the new 2+2 is based on the M139 Spyder, developed by Pininfarina and Maserati and shown to Ferrari management in 2003--when Ferrari technically owned Maserati.

IF this is all true, it surely won't look like that Pchop. That is way to close to big brother 599.

Slight hijack - I leafed through a recent issue of Autoweek while in the waiting room at the doctor's office today. The layout and art direction in that magazine is just AWFUL! It's painful to read!

Agreed. And the coverage is 'rumor of the week' as well -- basically useless.

    10,000 units!?

Seems they are attempting to target the Bentley GT market. Those things are everywhere.

It would be interesting to see what Ferrari has up their sleeves. Maybe if I was to camp out at the Ferrari test track for a weeks I might get a peek . I sure miss those lunches at the Montana!

I still remember motor trends interview with Luca di Montezemolo. His claim about no baby ferrari. I know this interview was in 2007, but from what is sounded like a lower end ferrari is the used ferrari. There would not be a Dino. I think I posted this interview in another thread. But I dont recall reading member's thoughts about that interview.

I think if its priced at around 430 levels like a good politician he'd claim its not a baby Ferrari but merely another thread to their bow

This picture does seem to have much in common with the earlier front view in the V12 section (!) but its difficult to envisage both the folding roof and the +2 seats fit on the car in today's 'photo'

I think they mean 4,000 baby Ferrari's added to their current 6,000 cars per year = 10,000

I could be wrong but I think both images posted on this thread are renderings done by the media. Its pretty much the publishers speculation so the actual model it farely different.

well thats it, Ferrari is no longer an exotic. Its an expensive car builder. Just by looking at it you can tell its a maserati chassis.

Hang on to your old Ferrari's folks, they are on the way up.

Not neccessarily, the mass-market image will drag everything down with it....."its a Ferrari, so what?" Look what the Boxster did to cheapen the 911 image.

It looks like they've just made the 612 special order only, so the idea of a V-8 powered 2+2 seems more likely to me.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo surprised the crowds at the Geneva motor show by announcing that the Italian company will be launching a new car at the Paris show.

The news will be taken as confirmation that Ferrari’s baby GT project, codename “F149” is moving towards production. The car is set to go on sale for similar money to the F430 Scuderia and will give the brand a direct rival to the Aston Martin DB9.

Sources within Ferrari have also indicated that the car will be powered by a V8 engine featuring direct injection and will have a folding steel hard-top.

If its going for the same money as an F430 Scuderia that means $260,000. How much is the 430 replacement going to be if this car is the "baby"?

I think the truck and rumors of a sedan did more to cheapen the image than the boxster.
