    Guys,

I've done a search, but can't find the exact answer. Appreciate your help.

Trying to buy a battery tender that will connect to the car via the cigarette lighter socket. Does anyone have a recommendation on brand and model #? I contacted Detran and they are asking "what size is the battery" which confuses me. I would think a car battery charger would be a rather standard thing.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.
    Tim

I think you will be better off with the type that connects directly to the battery terminals, or power terminals, that you just plug in from a wall outlet rather than the cigarette lighter type.

I fit an Accumate charger to my 360 when its in the garage via the cigarette lighter and it works perfectly. Just check that your cigarette lighter is live when the keys are out of the ignition. You can read all the blurb on the Accumate, it conditions the battery etc etc. I dont isolate the battery when the Accumate is connected, no need. Mine cost less than £40 ($80), which is a lot less than the Ferrari item.

    regards,
    Andy

I have been using this battery tender since July 07 with no problem. I first used it when I left the car for 2-month unattended. Bought it via ebay. You also need to buy a cigarette adapter. The company is located in Costa Mesa, California.

Thank you. What model and year Ferrari do you have? Just checking to see it will work with my '00 Modena.

    Appreciate all the help.

FWIW, I seem to recall that the owners manual for my '04 Spider specifically forbids plugging accessories into the cigarette lighter. I have no idea why or if this is a big deal but thought I'd point it out.

Thanks all. Plan to tackle it Monday night. May adjust the alarm antenna while I'm in there too. Will post an update on my level of "success".

There is also a positive (red) and negative post in the fuse/rely compartment behind the driver's seat. I installed with ring connectors there and the pigtail simply lies on the floor behind the seat ready for connection to the charger. Also 2000 Modena.

It's called the CTEK 3300. Works just as well on my 430 as my SLR. Have had them for years without a hitch. The 430 has it hooked directly to the battery whereas the SLR has a cigarrett outlet provided for jus that cause.

Installed the CTEK this evening via the electrical panel behind the left seat. Went great - 30 minute job max. Took some adjustments to the leads, but it was easy. Happy to describe in detail if anyone cares.

Problem now is that I don't have my radio code and I cut the power to do the job :(. I guess a good charge on the battery beats listening to the radio!

I usually don't worry about the battery on my 360. However, there are weeks when I don't run it. Does anyone routinely use the battery charger? I have it sitting on a desk in my garage. I flipped through the manuel the other day, and the 360 was not referenced in any of the diagrams. Any tips?

I purchased one of the Deltran (Battery Tender Jr) and the red light stayed on for 5 minutes or so (supposedly indicating less than 80% charge). After that I gave up and read that the Battery Tender Pro is temperature compensating. It is hot here in Texas so this might have had something to do with it. According to Deltran in cold temperatures a battery tends to get undercharged, but more significantly is in hot temperatures, the battery could get overcharged unless it is temperature compensating.

Not wanting to take a chance I am returning mine for the temperature compensating "pro" model.

    Good luck.

+1 for the CTEK, mine stays connected behind the passenger dead pedal with the pigtail hanging out, simply plug in when not in use!! No worries!

How many threads do we need on this? OP, please pick one: Searches on Fchat are bad enough without getting tons of hits.

    John,

Merged the threads, if you use the search function you will get at least 20 threads on topic. Hope this helps!
