ok so I was at my brothers last night and was blown away w/ IPod/itunes. He has the latest IPod that hooks up to his home entertainment system. So at 40 I've got to get in-sync w/ the whole Ipod-itunes way of life. I haven't bought my Ipod yet but wanted to check out i-tunes. Question. Where do you go to start viewing itunes. I've found this but wasn't sure I needed to sign up in order to preview songs? I know I need to "buy" songs but I wanted to just explore.

    Any help appreciated.

That site doesn't appear to be an official site, so I'd be afraid to click on that link to download from there. I'd go straight to apple here:

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/

You can browse around a bit before you download the (free) software.

Computers are so Passe' for downloading songs anymore. Get the new touch and you can download the songs right from the i-pod itself. I haven't synced my touch with my computer in weeks...it'll probably take an hour to sync it next time cause it will download all the new media that I downloaded over the Wi-Fi in my house back on to my computer.

I too could not live without my i-pod. It is amazing how fast they take over your life. I had a similar experience when I fits got a TiVo. :)

As you are near my age I will bet you have a lot of cd's you have collected up over the years. So there is no reason you would have to buy as much music as you think. Once you get iTunes from www.apple.com you can start "ripping" songs right to your computer. Ripping is to insert your disk into the computer and it will copy the songs to your hard drive. If it is a store bought disk and your computer is connected to the net, iTunes will connect to a data base and download the names and track titles automatically. Back in '99 or so when I first got iTunes, I thought that was the coolest feature ever!!!

True, but there is some debate about if this is legal (The RIAA claims this is 'unauthorised copying'). Be careful what you do, the RIAA is big brother these days!

I am not an attorney, but I believe that if it is for 'personal use' then you are OK to 'rip' the music that you have purchased for use on your iPod.

RIAA has not even filed a suit against any one ripping cd's to their Mac. Sharing those over the net however....

90% of my music collection has been on the PC since year 2000... where have you been???

Apple.com is where you download iTunes. I have it installed on all my PC's.

I use a Sony W810i for my music - it's a 2MP camera, boombox, 8 gigabyte MP3 player, flashlight & phone that KILLS iPod for the price (IMHO, of course) and I don't support the pretentious, boastful Apple community.

I've ripped all my CD's to the computer, then sold them off :) I kept only a handful to enjoy in the car (full CD quality cannot be beat in the car).
