My apologies if this is a "Repost": My wife and I were conversing just after lunch today and she asked me a silly question and now it's eating at me. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know where 308 #1-100 are? Also, does anyone know of the whereabouts of the very last (100) 308's ever produced? Thanks in advance for any infos.

I have no idea...and, I seriously doubt this question can ever be answered definitively as there were too many of these cars made and at a time when ownership records were not too diligently tracked. Also, what exactly do you mean by "308"? Are you including the GT4, the 2-valves, and the 4-valves?

Well, here's a place to start --- According to the published literature, the chassis numbers for the various models are:

As far as the Pininfarina designed 308 goes, it's probably a safe guess that the very first (serial *18677) and the very last (serial *59265) cars never left Europe and reside in the private collections of some of the original executives / family members of either Pininfarina or Ferrari...

For what it's worth, I was once informed that the last 2-valve 308 (serial *43079), which was a US spec GTSi, was delivered new through Ron Tonkin GT to an owner in the Portland, Oregon area ---- I can't swear to the validity of that claim, nor do I have any info on where that car may be currently...

Perhaps the F-chat members who own 308's will help nail down at least some of the first and last (100) by posting their car's serial numbers (last 5-digits only, please)???

I suspect this is the case, David. There were three prototypes (S/Ns 18317, 18319, and 18321) prior to regular production starting with S/N 18677. These were the various show cars. I've posted one of them below.

As far as the 1976 North American version fiberglass GTBs, I own #19399, the second of the 100 produced and in the first shipment of four to the United States.

A good reference website is Robert Retzlaff's 308 GTB Register:

    http://www.r-design.net/308/index_e.html

    BARRY ---

Absolutely beautiful car... I really like that color ---- is it Blue Sera?

Also, I guess since I made the request, I should honor it as well...

Unfortunately, my GTSi is no where near either extreme of production run --- pretty much right smack somewhere in the middle at (*35773)...

My car is the 2nd GTSi @ 31311

The first GTBi has been on e-bay, IIRC somewhere in the south, twice by the same dealer in the last 6 months @ 31327...and I don't think they know it's the first of the "i" run.

Dave Meredith has a pretty comprehensive registery of the 308 series.....dave308gtsi maybe?

I heard through Ferrari lore that the first 308 (not GT4) that came into the US was taken to the Virginia City (NV) Hillclimb and driven by one of Bondurant's instructors (his school was at Sears Point (Infinion Raceway now). Can't recall his name (Cook maybe?). And he crashed it. I'm guessing it was not totaled although the cliffs are pretty steep. Of course, like legend, this may be a bogus story. There amy be others that can confirm/deny all this.

    Robert,

In late 1975, Bob Bondurant brought over a Euro fiberglass GTB for some road testing. This appeared in Road & Track and I posted the article below. I don't know the fate of this particular GTB.

Would any of the first and last production 308's (Pininfarina) be owned by members of F-Chat? Isn't there a 308 registry on this forum? I think this would be a great time to do this as most 308's are either lost (due to accidents/fires) or status unknown. Its only a matter of time when the 308's will be officially called "Classics" as some may already be considered antiques.

The only info that I have is restricted to the 2Vi variations.

If there's any questions relating to these specific models, holler!

    Cheers - DM

Thanks for that. Its got to be the same car. So it wasn't the first 308 imported for sale but the first 308 to enter the US. Yeah, wonder where that is today? Maybe it is that glass 308 that belonged to the NV cathouse owner and was sold a few years ago (in horrible shape) on Craigs List.

My GT4 (14768) was the first U.S. GT4 in '79... Not exactly what we're discussing, but I felt i might as well chime in.

Okay, let me get this straight - you guys want to know the current whereabouts of the first 100 308s as well as the last 100 308s...? So we're talking about, at the very least, the location of 200 different cars...? The profundity of the specificity of such a search is rivaled only by the impossibility of consummate results. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to know the answers as well. But obtaining this information would take lots of time and lots of proverbial pavement pounding in the 308 community.

...so let's get started. I think, perhaps, there might be some people out there who don't realize how close their car's serial number is to the end of the production spectrum for these models. The other thing that needs to be considered is that even two decades later, not all of the 308s are known. Just reading this thread, I saw a new serial number. Taking these things into consideration, let's see if we can lay some foundation in the commencement of the construction for these answers.

First 308 GTB, fiberglass, prototype: 18317.
    Last 308 GTB, fiberglass: 21355 or 21289.

    First 308 GTB, steel: 19881.
First 308 GTB, steel: 30701 (after the inception of the 17-digit VIN).
    Last 308 GTB, steel: 30699 (pre-17-digit VIN).
Last 308 GTB, steel: 45113 (after the inception of the 17-digit VIN). The last 308 GTB converted competition car is 75306.

First 308 GTB, fiberglass, RHD: 19149.
Last 308 GTB, fiberglass, RHD: 21253.

First 308 GTB, fiberglass, USA: 19397.
Last 308 GTB, fiberglass, USA: 19803(?).

First 308 GTB, fiberglass, Euro LHD: 18317 (same as prototype?).
Last 308 GTB, fiberglass, Euro LHD: 21355 or 21289.

    Next up, GTS 308s...

It would be nice if the "Downed" (as in burnt, wrecked, flooded, parted out, etc.) units be involved as well. Im sure there are a few that someone here might know about. Thanks guys!

I own #59149, build #1261, July 1985. One of the last 16, AFAIK, 308's to leave the factory, euro car, now in California USA(maybe THE last built Euro LHD GTSQV still on the road !).

The more I look at the GTB's, the more I realize how appealing the shape is as opposed to my GTS. Very cool picture pages in the link above.
