Films to avoid like the plague. I'm talkin' "bad" bad. Not camp bad or cool bad like "PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE". First up: "THEY LIVE". It sounded so cool on the video box. Aliens are among us but they look just like us. Only people wearing special glasses can see the aliens and their subliminal messages to us. (OK, I was a teenager, but hey...) Seeing Roddy Piper's name should have tipped me off, but oh no, I rented it anyway. It was just a vehicle for Rowdy Roddy to smash people upside the head. Next: "STRANDED". A lame-ass movie from DEJ Productions about a mission to Mars that gets...well...stranded. Really, anything from DEJ sucks, but I didn't notice it was one of their films. The spaceship is approaching Mars and they realize something is wrong; IIRC they are going to crash land and not be able to take off. One crewman asks if "they'll come get us?" HUH? How could you not know? At one point, the commander says that half the crew will have to step outside and die in order to conserve oxygen for the rest of the crew. Vincent Gallo asks "What's your problem?" to one of the condemned crewmen. Gee. I wonder what's got him so upset?? Ugh. The whole film was just awful. I'd spoil it but there may be a masochist reading this who would sit through the whole thing.
Oh man, I know what you mean. I'll add one I subjected myself to last night "Replicant" with Jean-Claude Van Damme
I offer two that stinked for me...especially considering what they must have cost to make: Starship Troopers That thing "signs" or something with Mel Gibson versus the dumbest Alien invaders ever in the history of the universe.
Gattaca is perhaps the worst science-fiction, and one of the worst of any genre, movies I have ever had to sit through. We went to the theater, and halfway through somebody got up and literally said loudly as walking out "this movie ****ing sucks!".
######SPOILER!!!!####### "Signs" was good as long as no alien could be seen. As soon as they appeared, it got SO bad. Aliens traveling through space don't know how to get past wooden doors... yeah... if one of those aliens just jumped against it and it would have crumbled. And I laughed when they showed in the TV news in the film that the Aliens invaded India... aliens who get killed when coming in contact with water invade India during the MONSOON? Respect! ######SPOILER!!!########
######SPOILER!!!!####### (back again---) Not to mention that they couldn't keep their cloaking device working worth a flying fart, nor could they navigate to a farm house without "marking" the target with a crop circle. Makes you wonder also why they wanted to capture humans for food when the human body is like 90% water (given that water dissolved them like nitric acid). Mel & Co. did not exactly cover themselves in glory here either, IMHO - I believe that I would have turned to my .30-06 rather than a baseball bat under the circumstances... ######SPOILER!!!!#######
I accidentally watched one on cable a while back - "Alienator" - that was truly BAD! In the made-for-TV catagory, that recent "War of the Worlds" (not the Tom Cruise one, I've never seen that) was a real stinker.
So far I like many of the movies mentioned. One that was mentioned on the best list which really sucks has got to be: Ghosts of Mars. What a piece of crap.
i concur. this was pathetic. saw it at the drive in. people were flashing their headlights it was so bad. only highlight was the aluminum foil helmets. what a stinker.
The first one stunk. I recently watched the sci-fi remake & Children of Dune. Better, but still only average at best. The books were excellent. When I was 8-9 years old, the movie Green Slime scared the cr*p out of me (I wasn't never into scary movies). Recently saw it on TV, what a stinker with lousy special effects!
