http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=333182 This guy is an owner of a 360 "Rarri" against his will, but thinks his Evo is better. Interesting read.
its apples and oranges. Each car will appeal to a different buyer and each is a phenomenal car in its own right. No one should dismiss his opinion as Im sure there are people who prefer the Evo to the 360. I prefer my viper to the 355 and thats blasphemous on this site but true. Thats not to say the 355 isnt an incredible car but to each his own. Its like women...we all have different tastes. But I still think we should hunt him down for calling the 360 a 'rarri'....ugh
Yeah I'm not trolling, I just think the guy sounds a little crazy. The fact that he says "rarri" and that the car was forced upon him. And some of the replies are rather amusing.
That is secret code for "my post is 100% bull ****". Detached feel? Can't work on them yourself? This guy is a real tool.
I read the link you posted, OP, and at no time did the idiot bother explain just how it was he happened to acquire a Ferrari against his will. Pure, unadulterated BS.
The guy's a "Ricer", what do you expect!? Probably doesn't even have an Evo IX as well. There are a few of the kind in F-Chat as well!
I have owned 6 Ferrari's including my current BB512i and I test drove an EVO X GSR, which is a newer model EVO than his EVO IX. And I like the EVO too. I think the demographics are very similar...both cars attract gear heads. The EVO drives great, the handling with its SAWD and yawl control system is phenomenal...I had the salesman on the edge doing four wheel drifts on exits ramps at 100mph or so. The stock Recaro seats are comfortable with plenty of support and the stock Brembo brakes stop well. With 0-60mph in the 4s, skidpad in the 1.0 range and 1/4 mile in the 13s, all in all it is a great car...especially for the price. It certainly makes a better daily driver than a Ferrari. While I will keep my Boxer as a toy, I do plan to replace my current M5 daily driver with an EVO X in the September...likely an MR with it's TC-SST 6 speed gearbox The EVO fans are nicer to each other on their forums too...http://forums.evolutionm.net/
I think he sounds like a teenager who's dad maybe got a 360 through an estate or something. The costs are accurate so he must have some real world experience. When I was in high school similarly my dad had a 512BB, an 86 TR and a 308 2V, and I drove a 84 Celica GT. I loved the car I drove but really liked the Ferraris. If they had not been purchased by my dad and he struggled with the costs of maintenance I would have also probably had a worse opinion of the brand. Today I have a few sports cars. I prefer to drive the Ginetta to the Ferrari, even though it is much slower and in an entirely different league refinement-wise. But I also really like the 348, even though the brand keeps parts prices and service costs artificially high. It's all part of the experience that makes owning a Ferrari a unique challenge. The OP is correct in that if you don't have good service history with at least an independant mechanic shop your values will drop (on a newish model like the 360). I wouldn't say school's out, but each person's station in life affects your valuation of various vehicular aspects. BT
+1 Obviously with the exception of "Yoda" (the thread starter). He's a member on EvoM forums too (as am I). The Evo is a fantastic car for the price. The only things "cheap" about the car are the badge and maybe, the interior. Other than those things, you are getting pure gold for the money you shell out : Big Brembos, a super-stiff chassis, advanced stability electronics, and even a DSG transmission that's been acknowledged to be as good as, perhaps even better, than VW's. And yes, a stock Evo can demolish many stock modern Ferraris around many types of track. Look, the sad truth is that a lot of the time, people end up paying for a name more than anything else. Not that Ferrari is the sole villain here, many continental makes command a premium for the badge. I'm looking at buying a new car, and it's a decision between a VW GTI or R32 and an Evo X with SST. The latter car is around the same price as the GTI despite the fact that the GTI does not come with Brembos, or a stability control programme anywhere near as advanced as the Evo's - AND it's a FWD. The R32 is much more expensive than the Evo X and yet slightly slower in a straight, and much slower around a track. If I were buying the "Vee-dubs", I would be paying for a name, and perhaps German labour inefficiencies to boot. It's not inconceivable someone likes a car better than a Ferrari. Different strokes for different folks, folks. ...though I would agree that calling it a "rarri" is in poor taste. As contractions go, "Evo" sounds killer, "rarri" sounds weak.
Funny you should say that......I also prefer my viper over my 355, both are incredible machines but the viper is better in every aspect as far as driving the car is concerned, much faster, better handling, better braking and a 7 year/ 70000 mile powertrain warranty. I am thinking about adding a $6,000 Paxton s/c for a clean 725+ bhp proper!
That's pretty much it I suppose...there are a plethora of cars that perform better for much less cost to buy and maintain...Porsche comes to mind...But, the Ferrari name makes one think of the glory of days gone by when Ferrari was a hand made car for enthusiast who could and would actually drive their cars to the track, race them, and then drive them back home. Now most Ferrari owners don't even drive them to a car show...they trailer them. Us Ferrari owners must face it...its the Ferrari name more than anything else...it's certainly not performance...I remember when I had my 328GTS and got outran in a drag race by a stock Mitsubishi 3000...by a huge margin I might add...my former 1996 Viper GTS would take on anything Ferrari had at the time. Even my pig M5 will give a Ferrari a rub for the money on all but the tightest road course....especially against the average Ferrari driver who drives his baby at 5/10 max. Put a Z06,GT3, GT2, TT, Ford GT or new GTR on the track against a 360 o 430 and see what happens...and just wait until the new ZRI hits the track! Its certainly not about quality either...a car that needs thousands of dollars of maintenance and repairs every few thousand miles is not what one would refer to as high mechanical quality either. A Honda Accord will go 100k + miles with fuel, oil changes, tires and brakes only...now that's a high quality piece of machinery...its not luxury either...Benz, BMW, Jag, AM and even Lexus equal Ferrari in that regard...and that doesn't even include the cars in the Ferrari price range such as Rolls, Bentley, Maybach, ect...Yep, it is the name...
If you discount the "ownership experience" attached to the cachet of the Ferrari name, yes, I'd say more than 90% of the experience can be had for *far* less $$. Just being honest here.
With statements like these, I doubt you or this Parker guy have ever actually owned and REALLY driven a Ferrari.
FYI, I have owned 6 Ferrari's over the last 15 years( 2 at one time for about 3 years) including my current BB512i which I have owned since 2003...
Rarri ?!?! I guess that how the Fast & the Furious dopes say it I'm sure he walks around w his underwear sticking out too
With statements like these, I *don't* doubt that buyer's remorse, or the defensiveness bundled in the package, relentlessly gnaws away at the mind of a Ferrari buyer.
