I am working to put together what I hope will be a great weekend of driving, hanging out, and race watching up here in little 'ol Lynchburg, VA. This is a great town if you like to drive winding mountain roads, and I hope some folks will be interested in joining the fun.

The plan is something like this:

Arrive on Saturday, June 21 where we will watch qualifying at the house (TiVo'd, of course).
We will eat at a private sitting at Shoemaker's restaurant downtown ($45 plus drinks and tip):
    http://www.shoemakersdining.com/
Adjoining Shoemaker's is a great new hotel (call for special event room rate)
    http://www.craddockterryhotel.com/index.cfm
The hotel manager used to work at a hotel that served the Cavalino, so he is excited. We will have special parking too.
Sunday at sun-up, interested folks can head out on a long drive that will include some fantastic roads and equal scenery (there is no traffic at all early). Otherwise, we will meet up at the Peaks of Otter Lodge on the Blue Ridge Parkway for breakfast/brunch, at 10:00 or so (about 45 minutes of great driving from downtown).
    http://www.peaksofotter.com/
Another mountain drive will take us back to the house for the race.

Since I am not sure of the interest, I am intentionally leaving some things open until I have more of an idea of the numbers (lunches for instance. If there are 6 of us, we might just grill some burgers. If there are 30, we'll have some food brought in!).

If you plan to come, please shoot me a PM or email with your name and the number of people that will be coming to dinner. Let me know if you have any questions, and let me know if you have any suggestions! Come on up and enjoy!

    -J.

BTW, if I say "paddle shifters" or "6-piston calipers" or "externally adjustable rebound and compression damping" and you start thinking of names like Shimano, Sram, Hope, and Fox, then this might interest you:

We will be sampling some new and fantastic mountain bike trails that have been built in the city on Saturday am. You'd have to be here Friday night, but the riding is pretty epic, and the Craddock Terry will extend the Ferrari Club rate to Friday if you ask. If you are interested but cannot squeeze your freeride rig in the front of your exotic, shoot me a message and we can probably find a bike for you to enjoy for the morning. But bring your climbing legs, as they don't call it Candler's Mountain for nothin'... :)

Hi Jay, you told me about this earlier, it sounds like a good time. I'll try to make it up there, but right now my daughter has something going on that weekend that is "iffy" so it might be a last minute thing. Is that OK?

For those with family limiting weekend time, is it possible to come up just for the race?

Probably sometime in the 12:00-1:00 range. We will be coming back down from breakfast on the parkway. The race will be on DVR, so we are flexible. Let me know, and we an probably tweak things to help you out.

Do let me know in advance as I need to be sure to have the appropriate supplies (ie food and drink). It is not like I need to know today, but within say 2 weeks of the event to get the catering setup.

OK I need a show of hands.

So far the definites (from out of town) are Daniel and Ken, with Jeremy a maybe. I have a group of locals. I also have a few others who have booked rooms. Then there may be some folks coming up Sunday only.

I need to start lining up some food. I am thinking of going a bit small on Saturday when it looks like we may not have as many, but prepping for more on Sunday. Let's see a show of hands.

And as a bit more bait, I got the DVR in HD, and the image is unbelievable. Not to mention the sound (though nothing like what Chuck is used to :)) Plus, I just finished re-plumbing the kegerator, so there will be two flavors to choose from. In fact, if you throw in a suggestion, I may be able to take requests on a brew of your choice!

So where are the FCI and SA guys? (Hank? Jim? Tom - I don't own a Ferrari right now, so you are safe...) And you instructor types? How else to thank you for helping keep the rolling investment intact?

Dinner room will seat 24, but I don't think we are anywhere near that...

I might come down, only about 2 hrs from my house, straight down rt29. I used to go to camp at Peaks of Otter as a boy with the Royal Ambassoders, the boy scouts for the Baptist Church. Great area!
You live in Lynchburg, correct?! In the Ferrari could probably do it in 1.5 hrs! ;)

Robert, would love to have you come down. We pre-drove the route Sunday morning... it was gorgeous.

Still room in the inn, I don't think you will be disappointed!
