Lambo owner & enthusiast wandering around where he shouldn't be........................anyhow here's the question. I watched a bt of a throwaway TV programme the other night that briefly mentioned (& featured) a dino - the voice over informed us watchers that of "4000 made about 200 survive". Shurly shome mishtake thought I - what say you? Incidentally some Lamborghini models of a similar vintage claim survival rates of almost 90% but my old De Tomasso was one of 200 survivors from an original build of 401. What sort of numbers of Ferrari survive compared to numbers built? I suppose this is very model specific as I've personally seen half a dozen 400 series ferrari broken but I bet not many of the 250 series have met a similar end. Bax miura #3171
A Dino goes nicely with a Miura - a nice matched pair, and it gives you 2 of the the telegraph reader's top 5 most beautiful cars (albeit at 4 and 5, but the top two Italian cars in the survey) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.jhtml?xml=/motoring/2008/03/15/mfcars5.xml&page=2 2 Jags in the top 3, I wonder what results you'd get if the Gazetta ran a similar survey?
There are about 210 of the 2.4 liter Fiat Dino Spiders surviving, but there were 400, not 4000 of them made by the Ferrari factory.
I think it was just badly researched comment from the programme makers - the car featured was the dino not the fiat. Any survey that doesnt have a miura at number 1 isn't worth reading anyway. I agree that a dino & a miura in the same garage would make for some interesting driving choices - particularly about which car to take to the casino. bax
Shurtainly Shum Mishtake, in fact totally wrong! I can identify the chassis number of 181 cars that have been sold in the UK, with a further 600 odd sales on top of that (cars can obviously sell more than once). Two separate sources: http://www.pirro.com/english/All.Ferraris/Events/CFSS.97/Ferraris.at.CFSS.htm summarised below and Anthony Curtis book claims 3883 (of which 746 were UK RHD for my fellow countrymen!) That is a lot of cars made, like the Daytona, another huge production run car, current price increases are defying economic gravity.
