he is the braevst driver out there, he did it last season too, so many poles, so unfortunate couldn't even challenge for the title in the end,
I wish you luck Massa, GO MASSA GO GO KIMI GO

Why some of you dislike Massa, for no reason actually, or b/c he is from Latin side????
I think he is great, I really like him, why some of you behave if he is something like a McLaren Spy???????

When your expertly nonsense is rendered just that - expertly nonsense -
you don't need to contort yourself into funny shapes to maintain your 'expertise'
    - just have a seat.

    >R2112
    >With all due respect...Massa still has to race tomorrow

The Kimi harem will undoubtedly hope that Massa also does v.well ;)

    >rr87
    >I really don't understand why people here seem to be hating so much on Massa...

    In one word - 'appearances'.

And he's a nice guy - whatever that entails to some people.

    'Appearances' rule the West++

He's not like the typical 'greats'. He doesn't have LH's 'killer instinct'.
He doesn't have Kimi's 'coolness'. He's no MS. He can't pass.
    He hasn't any natural talent.

Some can't fit him into existing stereotypes,
others confine him into negative stereotypes.

    But that's precisely the point.
It's not about expectations, but Potentialities.

Theory 1 -- people who hate both massa and alonso (very dissimilar drivers) lost a girlfriend to a latin lover. ;)

Theory 2 -- people think that another brazilian champ will dilute the memory of senna. (Who was more similar to alonso than massa --- although I remember senna pulling some bull-in-a-china-shop passes in his day. ;))

The new Ferrari certainly has the quickness. But ITV may be right about Ferrari being lighter on fuel. (Notice that they started Q3 with options, rather than waiting until they burned off some fuel?) That kind of strategy is in line with that stupid pass attempt Kimi made last week -- "We may not be here long, but we're up front at the moment".

The biggest issue Ferrari has at the moment isn't the car or the drivers -- it's the team operations. They're just not thinking on their feet. Race strategy may be their Achilles' heel this year.

It's nice to start up front. But points go for *finishing* up front.

(That's not massa bashing: kimi is suffering from team problems, too. Seen the speculation that his "fuel delivery" issue was that the team didn't deliver fuel into the car before the session? "The devil is in the details.")

These could be "interesting times" at McLaren: Heikki is certainly putting on the speed. And, looking over the notes, I notice that Lewis has only ever won a race from pole. And that Lewis hasn't finished better than he qualified since Spain last year (not counting the fiasco at Nurburgring).

With four different marques in the top four spots last week, I was hoping we'd see more from the beemers. But it's looking like they may still have trouble at some tracks.

Or they might be betting on a setup for wet. I doubt that would help, here. At Silverstone, you can figure that rain will last a while. But I suspect any rain on race day in Sepang will be a passing cloud burst: dry track before, dry track after, but a river passing through briefly. More of a random hazard than something you can plan for.

But that's something that could work against Ferrari. The red cars don't seem to have as much trouble with the softer tires -- but just enough rain to bring out a set of wets would cancel the requirement for teams to suffer a stint under the options.

Hopefully the red cars will get well out front and leave the chaos behind them. If they can tick off some fast laps early, they might just cruise to a 1-2 ... provided rain doesn't trash their pit strategy. So lighter fuel may be to that plan. As long as they can keep to plan, the team issues may not bite them. And if you start up front, you don't need to improve over your grid position. :p

This one will be worth watching: it's not all that predictable.

(Okay, I'm babbling -- time to catch up on missed Zs. ;))

& What kind of crieteria are does people put Masas or any body to be a good F1 driver, a deserving title contender

Me or you, or West, to decide F1 talent on looks, or accent or race, or nationality???
I know people in he West who will agree with me, but unfortunately, the racists are in umbers

he is gr8 for me, for Ferrair, For his partner even Kimi, without his support Kimi could possibly have managed 3rd position in last race & you simply can't regret that can you or any body,
Kimi IS & HAS TO BE THANKFUL to NONE ELSE AS MUCH AS HE IS TO FELIPPE MASSA OF BRAZIL who supported him all the season,
spec. in the last race which he (MASSA) could have easeily snatched without making any special effort, those who deny this reality does that cause its really bitter for them,

we will see this season, I wish luck to both KIMI and MASSA,
Kimi is a talent thers no doubt, but saying Massa is gr8 too takes nothing away from the iceman

Right. Even Martin Whitmarsh admitted it was an "unlucky situation", the MCLs wanted to save fuel, were extremly slow but driving on the racing line.

Anyway, great qualifying. Shows "we" are back, at least with the speed.

Well Steve we don't know what deal McLaren had to make to be allowed to compete this season. Maybe Dennis and Whitmarsh got handed a checklist back in Paris last fall - "[ ] at least 3 engines blowing up. [ ] two failures of the fuel system while refuelling. [ ] stall the car at three starts. [X] be put back 5 places at qualifying" :D

Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen will drop five grid places for Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix after the duo were found guilty of impeding Nick Heidfeld and Fernando Alonso.

The incident occurred when both drivers slowed down after crossing the line with seconds left of qualifying. By remaining on the racing line, they were adjudged to have impeded Heidfeld and Alonso, who were starting their final flying laps.

Hamilton will now begin the 56-lap race from ninth place, while Kovalainen will start in eighth after the pair initially qualified fourth and third respectively.

The pair were asked to report to stewards after an angry Heidfeld, who qualified seventh, complained to race officials at the conclusion of the session.

Hamilton was subsequently found guilty of impeding the BMW Sauber driver by 'travelling at a very slow speed on the racing line', while Kovalainen was also charged with committing the same offence against the German and Renault driver Alonso.

But Hamilton felt he was not at fault although he did apologise to Heidfeld.

"I was pretty much out of the way," he said upon emerging from the meeting.

"If I held him up then I apologise for that."

McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh also defended both drivers, insisting they did the best they could under the circumstances.

"There was clearly an issue there and it's unfortunate," he said.

"If you look at the footage, our guys squeezed in as much as they could and slowed and we don't think they impaired Nick.

"He complained to the stewards. Nick was in fact quickest in all three sectors on that lap and I don't think he was unduly impaired, but I can understand his view that having all of those cars around when you're trying to concentrate on a quick lap isn't ideal.

"Neither of our drivers did it intentionally and did what they could to squeeze over and allow Nick and Fernando to do their quick laps."

However, a clearly frustrated Heidfeld refuted their explanation, insisting McLaren's actions cost him third place on the grid for tomorrow's race.

"If they did the best that they could do, they didn't do very well," he said.

"I was approaching my last lap on the option tyre and it would have been my quickest lap if not for the McLarens driving in the middle of the racing line at 80kph.

"I lost time. I made the corner but it cost me one and a half tenths for sure.

"It's pretty dangerous as well, other cars were moving pretty slowly but they were off line.

"The McLarens were just before or in the braking zone so it was difficult to find my braking point."

McLaren did, however, accept the punishment, underlining it was just an unfortunate racing incident.

A team statement read: "We accept the steward's decision but would like to add that neither Lewis nor Heikki impaired any of their competitors deliberately.

"It was an unfortunate incident - nothing more, nothing less. We look forward to tomorrow's race.

Hopefully there will be changes prior to the next race and the dangerous situation which existed will be resolved, unfortunately it was McLaren and could have been someone else. This just gives Heikki and Lewis all the more reason to go for the win. I have no sympathy for Nick in this situation, he should have known with the changes in Q3 that drivers would be told to go into fuel saving mode, he should have been out there sooner.

Does he have ANY fuel on board?!

Interesting to see that Webber was MUCH faster than Coulthard, and that Vettel is several places in front of Bourdais

Personally, I do not think it was the McLaren drivers' fault that Nick might have been held up, its the new fuel rule. They should not have been penalized at all, they tried to pull over.

Whoever (or is that whomever?) came up with this rule should be castrated. That would be a more equitable penal*ty.

Your right, it is virtually impossible to stay off the racing line all of the time and with that many cars on the slow down sooner or later someone is blocking.

Phil should have slowed down so Kimi who is a "real" driver could have the pole. the guy has no judgment and is not a team player. (what else can the bashers say...oh yes, he can't pass) ;)
