Was really looking forward for a thight race between Ferrari and Mcl. After all the hassle last year it would be nice to see Ferrari sweep the floor purely by being faster, no buts or ifs...

Well, last year, Ferrari was faster in the end, WDC as well as WCC would have been won anyway, even if MCL hadn't been punished.

Good morning Ron - you are absolutely correct. You know how F1 is - rules for the sake of rules.

Very true. But talking to people about F1 I hear all too often, "BUT, IF this and that.........." Getting tired of it. I just wanna watch thight racing where the first car over the finish line is the winner, period.

At the point where Nick was being held up, they had no business being on the racing line. They couldve just as easily drive on the other side of the track and no harm would have been done. Penalty is correct.

    Exactly.
During the Heidfeld on camera down the straight view, one car was on the proper inside line.
A little common sense and consideration would have gone a long way. Overtaking those in front is going to be a problem unless launch control kicks in, which of course it cant. Right ?

.2 seconds separated 3rd from 7th and .2 more to 8th. Good to see the close competition again.

Don't know WTF happened to Nico. Biggest disappointment for me.

Truli has always been a good qualifier. Its when the flag drops the problems start.

Ron I think that stat was for practice sessions.
Q2 was actually quicker on softs and little fuel than final qualifying with full fuel and hard tires.

I'm at work right now so I can't write too much, but don't forget Ron that the qualifying times are broken into segments - if you notice, the guy who qualified 11th (Button) posted a faster time than POLE position. You can't compare times in Q3 to times in Q2 and Q1. There is not a 1 second gap between the top 17 cars, it would be crazy to think Fisichella in a Force India or Piquet Jr in a Renault are going to have anything for the front runners.

On the penalty, yep McLaren deserved it although it was a mistake and not intentional. They simply must do something about the Q3 sessions now as it is lunacy to have cars going 40mph around the track with other cars whizzing by at 180mph. Utter madness. It's also pathetic and embarassing to see all these cars hobbling around the track. Whenever drivers/teams are doing silly things because of a rule, then the rule should be changed. I cannot understand why they don't just let all cars qualify on whatever fuel load they want and let them start the race on whatever fuel load they want. I do not see any angle where the current setup provides any additional action, interest or intrigue. It hampers the teams for no reason other than to supposedly let a slower car qualify artificially better because they are no low fuel - and that really doesn't happen all that often and when it does it really doesn't add anything interesting.

I was amused by many of the Massa comments, especially Moretti's about Ted and I :) funny... :)

+1 Don't worry Massa as usual will screw it up sooner than later, remember last year when the little turd stuffed it instead of passing Hamilton?

happy to see the ferraris at the front. grid penalty for mclaren sucks but seems justifiable they did slow nick up a bit on his last run. i hope it doesn't rain w/out the driver aides the ferraris could easily lose the race lead at any time.

Yeah, and remember that time in Brazil when he had to pit and Kimi got past him while he was getting more fuel? I was pissed then too. I mean, he practically handed the victory to Kimi. What terrible race craft...

    /sarcasm

You couldn't ask for a better support driver in Massa. He gifted two races to KR last year and helped all along the way. Every point he takes from LH is good for Kimi. Stop complaining.

Oh man, and remember last week when Kimi stuffed it instead of passing HK? That was awful - I'm just waiting. Kimi will screw it up sooner or later.

Give me a break. They are drivers, and they all makes mistakes. EVERY one of them.

As for me, I am praying for rain! I have already sacrificed a small and particularly helpless child for this purpose.

The best races are won and lost in the rain. It wouldn't be good for Massa, but would probably be good for Kimi and McLaren and... well, just about everyone else!

For me, it's small.... but when you're my size, eating a roast turkey is a small snack :)

Thats' why I never made it in F1... nothing to do with my talent, I was just too big to fit in the car :) haha... and if you believe that.....

I did find a little more time. I am wiring a new machine in our shop. Being cheap, I didn't want to hire an electrician, so an underling and I are doing it ourselves. Said underling is out buying drywall anchors that I forgot to get, so I am doing the selfless job of posting on f-chat until he gets back.

If I don't come back post-race to bash Massa around a bit more, you'll know I touched the wrong wire and ended up burnt to a crisp!

    Yes they do.

    ...and some more than others.

And some mistakes are worse than others!

...but winning the WDC is the ultimate prize, and luckily there is one WDC-winning driver at Ferrari, who I am expecting big things of this evening :)

In all seriousness, this is Massas race. He is out front and he can actually win when he's on pole. As long as he doesn't screw anything up, and as long as it doesn't rain, and barring any mechanical problems, I don't see any reason why Massa isn't the favorite to win this race. I have to wonder to what extent Kimi will "take the race" to Massa? Kimi wants to win, and he knows that a few extra points now may make a huge difference down the line. He's hungry for a win and there is only one guy in front of him, who is likely ill equipped to hold him off. I suspect Kimi will push the issue, but not to the point of forcing a collision. I only hope they both haven't been bravery-castrated and will dice it up a little to see who comes out on top!
