Cynical enough, not stupid enough. Anyway, how would you suppose they managed to short fuel Kimi and get him out of the pits just ahead of teammate without "orders"?

Would it be team orders to say "Felipe, you are not gaining on Kimi, hold back don't be stupid"? Or for the hell of it, vice versa. At what point is team orders and what point is it a "suggestion".

I have a feeling by "team orders" they mean "Rubens, pull over and let Michael take this one."

    ^I'm glad that's gone.

Maybe they had a less subtle way - some sort of radio control to kill the ignition and cause a terrible spin?

"No, Mr. Massa, I expect you to LOSE!!!"

You know that this was posted in jest, don't you? Don't you????

    I wish you would.
With two DNF so far this season, that is the kind of talk you should like.

However, there is still 16 races left of the season, so it would be nice if you woud let his performance do the taking when (or IF if you like) he bounces back as well.

SENNA3XWC and have a friendly wager relating to Massa and Alonso. I was stating that he Alonso has a 6 point advantage on Massa, which on the surface is quite embarrassing.

For the record, I have never been a Massa fan, but I can sympathize with the pressures an F1 driver is under. Even Sir Frank made a comment as to todays pressures are way more intense than in the glory days of F1 on the drivers. Sometimes drivers become snake bitten and it stays with them for an inordinate amount of time. It happens to Nascar drivers all the time. Even the good ones (Dale Sr and Daytona come to mind). It plays on their psychic and you begin to doubt yourself. I think we have all experienced this as human beings about something. This is why I fundamentally have a problem with Massa and his thought process. It was not necessary for him to drive the car at ten tenths. It's again not about his skill level. He could have driven nine tenths and brought the car home and there would be no discussion here...even if there was short comings in his ability relating to car control. It was his brain control that failed him here. That's all I'm trying to say. And that I have less sympathy for.

Well said. I could easily imagine the possible thought process in Malaysia after Australia: Contract going to expire soon, daddy Todt is out, you are really going to have to win in order to stay on this team. I can't really blame him for racing, but +++ on the brain fade.

this, coming from the person that immediately thumbed their nose at the 'massa bashers' after Massa got pole. please! yep, he still had to race, and screw up again he did. was getting a beat down from his teammate anyhow. and don't think we've forgotten your rants last year about firing Kimi, going off about him not being a 'team player' (by you definition of 'team').. yeah, you're a real tifosi!

'My best' is an american invention and all those, inclusive you, who sustain that he
should accept nr2, drive safely and score some points are advocating precisely that.

He should succeed or go down trying. Capitulating is a disgrace.

Just like Emerson Fittapaldi in that Indy 500 - trying to win it a second time, he crashes out worse than Massa did on the last one or two laps...and I was actually proud of the way he went out. Even though I wanted him to win.

Massa should be postponed judgement until the end of this season, IMHO. But that last race does not bode well...

and by that I mean the spinouts.

But, it wouldn't have been such a huge issue if they weren't successive events
and he didn't have the bad luck of beaching the car - a few meters over
and he would have maintained 2nd.

My college baseball coach always told us that he can except physical errors, but under no circunstances will he tolerate mental errors.

On another note, what the hell is Massa doing running Kimi into the pit lane exit at the start of the race? Completely uncalled for. Kimi said it best at the post race interview when asked about this. I got a better launch than Felipe and began to pull along side of him, when he squeezed me to the inside. I lifted and thought there was no point in pushing the issue in the first corner of a long and gruling race that remained in front of me. I thought that I would have better chance at him later on as the race wore on. Now there's a thinking man.

No one can beat you like you can beat yourself. Or as a wise friend of mine once noted "we're all our own worst enemy, its just that some of us are better at it than others".

I would be happy to if the Scumassa crowd would similarly stop propogating ridiculous excuses for Massa's pathetic driving.

Of course, we can all put this matter to rest WHEN Massa is dismissed from the team... ;)

I don't say he should drive safely or accept #2, I say he should quit the sport and make way for a more deserving driver.

His ENTIRE career reeks of mediocrity. Why do you need another 16 DNFs to understand this?

I don't need to wait for the end of this season to know that Massa is out of his depth, I can look back over a career of underperformance relative to his teammate to see that.

You need to understand that it is not merely the first two races of 2008 that are causing this criticism, it is 7 years of poor performance, stupid errors, poor car control, and inability to overtake that is leaving so many of us pulling out our hair at the thought of Massa continuing in the Ferrari. He should never have been signed in the first place. He cost the team the WCC in 2006 and would have cost us again in 2007 had the FIA not intervened.

Mark my words, if Massa is retained, Ferrari will lose the WCC in 2008.

You need to get over yourself. You have consistently (for the past 2-3 years) taken condescending pot-shots at people here who come up with reasonable arguments to make their case. Your counter arguments generally consist of

    1) You don't know what you're talking about because I have been watching F1 forever

    2) Do you even own a Ferrari?

    3) Why don't you go somewhere else and leave the forum

    4) You need mental help

Brilliant form, Carol. Stick to making posts about the various races you're attending - we're all just DYING to hear about it. I think it's fair for reasonable adults to be able to debate the relative merits of Felipe Massa without being told they are mentally unstable from you!

    Ted,

Something interesting that I'm sure you've noticed too.

It seems to me that a few months ago there were a group of people arguing that Massa was the #1 driver, that he was Ferraris best hope at the WDC and WCC this year. Our mutual friend Ron falls into that category, among others.

It seems now that many/most of those people are saying things like "come on, he's not SO bad that he needs firing right away" or "Ferrari could do worse", etc. It seems most folks have abandoned the idea of Massa being WDC this year, and at least accept that he's the #2 driver.

I also think just about every single one of the arguments made against Massa have been based on facts. His career is easy to review and out there for the world to see. The pro-Massa arguments generally revolve around him being a nice guy, Ferrari mgm't knowing more than people on F-chat, 2 races not making a season, and so on. I don't get why the pro-Massa arguments can't be based on facts too?

    Well, I do... but.... :)
