Would love to be there, but it's our first race of the 2008 Le Mans Series with the DBR9 - Barcelona 1000km. Please say hello to the CP for me - I took the FXX to show him in February last year. And please support Nelson Piquet Jr - he's driven my DBR9 a couple of times and is a great bloke! And obviously Kimi and Felipe too!!
Looking forward to seeing old friends and making some new ones...it will be quite a fun gathering and event.
Dale, there is a static pavilion display at the F1 race during the event, and if I'm not mistaken, some of the cars maybe doing some parade laps before the race itself. After the race is over, there is a 2 day private track session on the F1 circuit, non-competitive of course. Ruf has quite a presence in Bahrain with a manufacturing facility there and they will have cars at this session as well. Should be a memorable time, with some very engaging and interesting personalities present
Its a fun track event, and I doubt guys will be going over the top with some of the machinery present. In addition to the cars listed in the article Jim posted, other cars include a 290MM Spyder that won the Mille Miglia in 1956, a 312 T1 and 312 T2 F1 cars, 166MM barchetta, 250 Pontoon Testarossa, 250 SWB Alloy, 250 GTO series 1 (2 cars), 206 Pininfarina Dino Competizione, P4/5, F40, F50, Enzo, Sigma F1, 312 F1, 2004 F1 car, 410 SA coupe, 250 Tdf Zagato berlinetta, LWB California Spyder, 275 GTB/4 Nart Spyder, 275 GTB/2 6C...and others ! That does not include some other significant marques that will be present at the track days...camera batteries are charged
That's a serious lineup Jas. I hope you have a blast as i'm sure you will . kindly share pics when you get back!
Take as much pictures as you can guys ! I'm sure you will have fun on the track ... and of course it will be a super F1 W-E for you !
They are still driving on the Track! LOL! Pics of the display are in another thread...it's in the Vintage Section!!!
I look forward to returning and sharing many wonderful memories from this unforgettable trip....the warmth, generosity, sincerity and friendship of the Bahraini people will never be forgotten. From beginning to end, it has been simply perfect. Off to to the track now for the last session, and then home tomorrow. I will post up my pics when I get back, and try to give some sense of justice to the brilliant experience here. Yesterday, the track session was very exciting. Jacky Ickx was there along with many other colourful motorsports personalities and racers...he did many laps, with many more to come today The track is obviously F1 world class, the Sakhir circuit. The F40 has run strong, cool and very fast !!!! I pushed it hard...or so I thought until Paolo Garella took the wheel with me as a passenger. Paolo Garella was an engineer with Goodyear when they developed the tires for the F40...he was also one of their best test drivers and logged many miles on the F40. He is now in charge of special projects at Pininfarina and just such a nice guy... He took out the F40 with me and man, we went at it ! The car sang and he drove it at 8/9 10ths the whole way...my face hurt from smiling at the end of 5 laps ! We had to be checkered flagged in for the end of session ! The car was teetering on the edge of traction and dipping/diving, perfect shifts/heel toes...just a dance going on The car ran cool, strong and tires held up beautifully (although we obviously heated the rubber ), and when he got out, he looked at me and said in a strong Italian accent..."I have driven a lot of F40's, you have a very strong car..." I was like a proud dad Lots more pics to come, it was unforgettable and the friendships forged wonderful. WOW!!! Even in just a few paragraphs, great read! Thanks for showing some photos real quick for us... sounds like first rate hospitality from our friends in UAE Paolo's words on your strong F40 are very telling to a meticulous dad making sure their child grows up "the right way" Enjoy the track today (tomorrow?) and have a safe flight
Excellent Jas...........I didn't know you had shipped your F40 to Bahrain for the event........that's cool. Glad you enjoyed it.
Good lord! RufMD what is that Ferrari in the 5th picture? Looks stunning, haven't seen that model before.
Great to hear that you guys had a memorable time...from the pictures and color commentary, it seems like an incredible event. Safe travels home...
I think you mean the pontoon fendered 250 Testa Rossa. Can´t say the serial number though, but I´m sure others on here can.
