I must admit, I have a soft spot for the 206GT. Many of the 206GT Dinos which come up for sale are in rough shape but this one looks particularly nice. A disproportionate number of these cars are in the hands of Japanese collectors as they are known to have a thing for the early Dinos (206GT and 246GT "L") as well as the early boxers (365 gt4 bb). When a nice and seemingly complete example like this one comes up for sale with all of the goodies (proper steering wheel, filler cap, shift knob, knock offs, etc.), I drool.

    Check it out at: http://www.anamera.com/en/detail/car/21312/index.html?no_cache=1&ret=63

At £250K, my salivary glands are quickly sealed. However, I think a 206GT would not be out of place in any SERIOUS Ferrari collection.

    Thoughts?

Yep. + a gullwing on the right. The Dino is "cheap" in comparison to the prices of those two :)

They were looking for 900K-1m USD or so for the purple prototype car. No takers mind you - I see that its been updated to 'offers invited'...

Perhaps 206s will do what LP400 Countachs did - go from being the unloved underdeveloped early car to the pure early car that everyone wants...

The purple 206GT is priced out of this world IMHO. While I know it's a prototype and has an unusual chassis number, I don't believe the price delta is justified. However, the Ferrari Dino Berlinetta Prototipo Competizione which Napolis just bought is in a league of its own. I would like to have been a fly on the wall during that negotiation - I'm guessing it took place over a few serious bottles of wine and required a large napkin to write the number down on!

Perhaps Napolis will read our thread and let us know how it "went down". We Dino owners should have first dibs on the story in our forum!

i haven't been brave enough to ask napolis how the deal went down with dino compeizione. however, i was looking at buying the purple dino when it was sold. at the time, dino coupe could be has all day long for $75k for an excellent example (regardless of 206 vs 246). general marsh wanted $140k for the prototype. it went to dk engineering.

there was some type of mix up. the "guys" that bought the car (now known as naito - i don't know if it is a person or company) bought a daytona spyder and wired the money. the daytona was gone and this dino was offered up as an "alternative" in terms of rarity and value - the story i was told.

with daytona spyder's having gone up the way they have, naito sees this car as still being similarly valued, hence the $900k price point - and that price was as of a year ago. the daytona spyder has gone up more since then.

as much as i love dino's, this car is at best a $300k car. without it's serial number being unusual, it would be no different than any other 206.

Re: original post; is that dash and steering wheel really original, as per the ad copy?

This one just appeared in my mailbox the latest offering for a mere 275 k http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page.php?carno=31311 Any body fancy a virgin for that price
This U.K site always has plenty of Dinos up for offer. I find it hard to believe that any of these cars are looking for a home outside of Japan as the collectors there are not known for letting cars out of the country but who knows ?

it says never restored but the engine appears to have been modified, for a car that was never driven, it makes me wonder why

The wheel and dash are likely correct, since are identical to my L series #00462, though I would take issue with the cavallino horn button vs "Dino". Glove compartment lid also identical to mine. Don't know where they got the anomalous-looking shifter knob, unless this was unique to 206's which I doubt (Gregg Blue can you comment on this?). The price is outageous and clearly pie-in-the-sky, but we'll see what the market will bear!

Robert: The horn button is incorrect for a Dino but it was easy to buy a V12 Ferrari button from that period and put it on the Dino as they were interchangeable. The shift knob is original.

Wspeer: Bingo numbers are huge numbers - think about the long number that gets read out to verify that someone has Bingo.

Keith- If that shifter knob is correct, then maybe mine is wrong (is yours like the one pictured?), and I may need to launch into yet another search for an unobtanium part! Anybody else with an L-series or 206 have a comment on this? Also, my seats, presumably original, have grey-tan cloth inserts. Comments?

    Robert:

The 206 has a different shifter than the "L" series cars so your shift knob is correct - it should be the round type. While I've never seen another Dino with the color inserts you have on your seats, the material looks original and I wouldn't change a thing.

    Cheers...Keith

this car is also for sale........shift knob is correct.........never seen these wheels on a 206 but they sure are nice. Horse on front grill not correct, but this car is restored beyond belief........some where way over $200k for sure. It was sold a few weeks ago but is now back in stock. The other 206 has a vinyl dash..which I understand some of them had....missing the fuse box stickers? What are the vin's of these cars?

...my 206 is running like the wind and I'm putting some serious miles on it here in Maui.
I have only 1 206 repro shift knob left for sale..........not making any more
