Euro spec : problematic

If you are buying a 360 as a track car, or poentially keep it for a very long time than a low priced euro 360 is not a bad deal.

Only issues I see would be the speedometer showing km, instead of miles. And lack of dealer support unless you are willing to pay big money. Independents don't care if it is a euro car or not.

 

Buy an MPH speedo and hey presto!

 

Speedo's do not show miles except early 99's conversions. I have had two and they all show MPH

 

Euro vs. US ; its all a bunch of baloney. I have owned 2 in my Ferrari career so far. If the car is converted properly, including the speedo, you will be fine.

 

my 360 was a euro and was without issue. there is no reason to pay the premium for a USA car unless there is a warranty, and since all 360's are out of warranty then why pay? the cars are then same if properly converted.

 

PS....I've never seen a guy that has actually owed a euro car knock euros on the forum. It's usually dudes that are not qualified with first hand experience that bash euros.

 

So early 99's conversion's odometers show miles and the later show Kilometers? A bit confusing for me

Yes Marty this is true if you buy a euro car during the model year in which it would still be covered under warranty. Your car had issues that were not covered under warranty. If it was a US car at the time it would have been covered. I think that is why you hate them so much?? I see no problem with a Euro car if out of warranty. You buy for less and sell for less. Cheaper price of admission.


As for the 99's most are in Kilometers some in miles. I believe the conversions and USDOT called for all after 00 to read in MPH. My 99, Marty's old one read in kilometers for to read how many you have gone but also had MPH on the sppedo so I did not have to due the conversion while driving to see if I was doing the spped limit.

I have a 00 Euro 360 and it's great, it's the best F-Car I've owned in both performance and reliability. and it was converted by Amerispec. I have never had to tow it to a shop, only once when someone overfilled to oil (they didn't know how to check the level in a dry sump) and I've had the car since 2002. Euro's are great if they were converted properly. You pay less for them so you can't ask the same as a US on resale, but they are not worth a lot less! I'd say 10% - 15% less unless we are talking about a new car under warrenty.
All 3 of my modern F-Cars had problems, of course nothing like older 308's 328's or mondials I've had. But my Euro 360 has been more reliable than my 2001 Porsche Turbo

 

Is your Odometer in miles or kilometers?

 

Sorry to disagree but the local dealers will all work on my car, no questions asked. Speedo is also in MPG, not an issue.

I have posted extensively on this subject. It should make your search easier. I even took a 49 state car and had it tested to a 50 state car; there are full details in one of my posts.

For those that think the US cars are better remember, Ferrari only sells the good cars in the US. The sell the bad cars to the rest of the world, particularly the Italians.

I am really happy with my Euro... so much so that I would prefer that my next Ferrari be a Euro also. Who wants extra weight and emissions controls?
Let me ask a question. What car would you prefer a US 308 or a Euro 308 and which one is more desirable now? I'll take the Euro 308 Please!

 

Back in the day, many Ferrari dealers would not do warranty work on Euro cars, mainly because FNA wouldn't pay. As a result, Euro cars would trade at a $10k discount to US spec cars.

Maybe things have changed today.

This is true but 360's are long ago out of warranty. The dealers would do the work you just had to pay for it, FNA didn't pay.

 

The price disparity still exists in the States. If similar US and Euro cars were for sale, the US car would be preferred. With a US market preference working against euro cars, values are down.

 

I agree that if both cars were the same price, people (as a stigma only) would take the US car...BUT remember, since Euro cars have been cheaper to buy, they are in effect cheaper to sell. I purchased my Euro 360 for under market value compared to US cars with similar miles/condition, therefore when I sell, I will be able to offer the car at a lower price.

People are concerned with resale value, but as the 360 drops in price, you are dealing with a more price sensative buyer. An extra 5-10k savings on a 100k car means more to the buyer then 5-10k savings on a 200k car....

As for service...car was serviced since "new" through Ferrari dealership.
