Are there any issues with mounting a temp sensor in the radiator. I am now fitting my one piece Pi dash and it would make life a lot easier if I could put a temp sensor in my new ali rad I am having fabricated (this would save a lot of hassle with replacing the sensor in the future and not having to remove the plenum).

Also what are the locations for the Oil temp & Oil pressure sensors.

Any help would be appreciated. pete

I realize that your MondialQV is a bit of a special project with a special use (so this might not be a big deal), but, if you are going to run a thermostat in the system, you won't get any temperature indication until the thermostat opens with the temp sender mounted in the radiator tank -- i.e., if the thermostat sticks closed, the engine could badly overheat yet no trouble would be indicated on the gauge. They put the sensor where it needs to be -- in the hot coolant stream exiting the cylinder heads. Don't know if this is easily doable or even possible, but it could be relocated somewhere into the thermostat inlet housing and still measure the same coolant stream (see page 70 in your OM)

The oil pressure sender is mounted under the oil filter body -- item 32 in this figure:

    http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partTable.asp?M=1&Mo=665&A=1&B=39014&S=

but has the same sort of location issue as the water temp sender -- it's best located so that it measures the pressure of clean oil exiting the filter and entering the engine (see page 55 in your OM).

The oil temp thermister is item 34 in this figure:

I am fitting a Pi 2 dash (see below), so no need for any Vdo gauges:)

The only other gauge I will need is the original fuel gauge.

Thanks Steve, This post basically answers all I need to know.

Yes it is a special project;)

I will keep the water temp sensor in the same place. Although I was wondering if it would be an issue if I had a 12" extension pipe so the sensor itself is no longer under the plenum (just trying to make my life easier for the future).

I basically knew where the oil sensors were but I didn't know which was which.

Is 37 in the diagram the oil sensor for the oil cooler?.

37 is an oil pressure switch that turns on the red warning light in the gauge when the oil pressure is very low and the key is "on".

If you scroll down in the parts list on the left side of the eurospares web page and put the little hand cursor on the item, it (sometimes) gives additional description.

PS I initially thought that those items were on two different SPC pages -- I didn't need to post a link to the same web page twice ;).

Thanks for that Steve. Thats another item & its wiring I can eliminate from the engine.

I haven't looked at my car, but is the oil cooler fan switch on the cooler itself then?.

I'd guess that the oil cooler fan switch is item 63 -- which got a little mis-translated as "thermostat" (which isn't totally wrong) rather than "thermal switch".

Although they note that the oil cooler fan 75 and switch 63 are only used on the Cabriolet? Your Coupe has them?
